I am a Big Rig Diesel Technician. I know this is a compendium of tool knowledge so I have come to you guys.

I.E. Proto SAE Spline Double Box End

I want something very similar to the example above only in Metric. It must be Professional or Industrial Grade. It must also have a lifetime warranty. I do intend to use these at work on fasteners that are extremely tight.

I like Proto's ASD design but, I do believe most if not all spline drives will perform the same function.

I own a set of the Mountain aka Ez-Red flex ratcheting double box end and use them a lot and I also know the limitations of spline drive.

Spline drive metric wrenches are rare because spline drive metric fasteners don't exist. You'd be better off with 12 point wrenches.

Spline drive has nothing to do whatsoever with spline drive fasteners. Spline drive was invented by KABO tool in Taiwan. The idea was to turn a hex fastener with the sides of the hex instead of the points. Sort of flank drive on steroids. Proto (actually Stanley, of which Proto is a part) licenses this technology from KABO.

It turned out that spline drive also worked on a wide variety of fasteners: Square, hex, double hex, external torx just to name a few. This versatility was turned into a marketing point. I really don't consider it that valuable.

Mountain and E-Z Red import the long flex wrenches with spline drive from KABO. KABO has exactly what you want in Taiwan only they have no presence in their own name in the USA.

However, a lot of NAPA's Carlyle branded tools come from KABO. Your best chance of finding what you're looking for is to check the Carlyle catalog at your local NAPA and see if they have the tools you desire.

The Matco set that has the box end and a flex ratcheting box end is awesome. They just added a expansion set, 21-24 too. Each is north of $400.

Though hard to find and no lifetime warranty (as the company went out of business 20+ years ago), I've never had a lick of trouble out of my Bonney's. Their enhanced broaching has a great grip.

Spline drive has everything to do with spline drive fasteners. Convincing people that the use of spline drive tools on anything other than spline drive fasteners is 'better' than 12 or 6 point tools is a great way for them to sell you more wrenches, but that's pretty much it.

I saw a display a few years ago at the SK dealer who was selling the SK version of ratcheting spline wrenches. Had all sorts of bolts on the display where you could test the fit and function. Was interesting, but didn't really see the need when I already had all the various tools to do those jobs anyway.

Only matco and gearwrench offer ratcheting flex/box and Matco offers 8-19 where gearwrench is 10-19

Matco also offers spline box/fixed ratcheting in 10-24 aswell

And the gearwrench gearboxes are 12 point not spline you are looking for 120xp wrenches which are spline

Exactly. Unless you are an aircraft mechanic working on actual spline drive fasteners, the odds of running into a fastener that your spline drive wrench can remove that a 12 pt of equivalent quality couldn't remove are between slim and none. The whole spline drive thing is marketing by tool companies. It's amazing how it has caught on.

They are 12pt not spline, but the Napa/Carlyle 0-degree double box wrenches are pretty nice. I got them on sale and have used them a few times, very nice. I did have to buy a wrench that was not in the set though, as I use the skipped size often.

You are correct about the GW not being spline but in fact 12pt, my bad.

But... they are 8-19mm no skips.

This is simply incorrect. Spline drive wrenches have everything to do with spline fasteners. And, as pointed out, there is only one standard for spline fasteners, so no need for a metric and sae set.

Okay look all I want is plain non-ratcheting double box end spline wrenches in metric.

If the Metric Ez-Red splines are standard splines aka SAE Spline then I will buy the Proto ones mentioned in my original post. If they are not see the sentence above.

I have 12 point Flank Drive+ in metric. I am not using it for regular fasteners and before you attempt to tell me it works on all. Try it on E-Torx Exhaust manifold bolts tell me how well you round them cause I can tell you from personal experience unless you have a spiral socket or a E-Torx wrench you are not going to get it off after that.

Now before you go and tell me spline will do the same let me enlighten you it grabs deeper down on the e-torx it is not as angled which means it has less chance of rounding and it applies force with all of the splines in contact not just the 6 in the rotation you are going.

So please stop telling me how to do my job and if you have nothing constructive to bring pertaining to my posted questions keep it to yourself.

I searched for the set that you want, and from what I can tell, they don't exist. Not trying to be a **** here- I made an attempt to help you find what you want, and I couldn't find a long pattern spline drive double box non ratcheting metric set. I'm about 90% sure that no one makes them.

If you're concerned with getting off e-torx fasteners, why not just buy e-torx wrenches? I don't buy spline drive tools personally, but more than once I've loaned out my etorx wrenches to people who tried and failed with spline drive or 12 point tools.

The reason why i don't use just E-Torx is because its not the only type of special fastener we use. I really do not feel like buying a set of wrenches for every special fastener they decide to use. I own 2 E-torx wrenches already and they are pricey and rarely used.
