Ok, seems like alot of companies are selling spline wrenches and sockets. its said that they will fit all types of head shapes. how do they perform. i had an experience with a friends set where the nut got jammed in the socket because the fit was poor. on a side note, those sockets fit sae and metric-maybe thats why? that said, i still have this urge to buy a set of craftsman wrenches just because. anyone have experience with these tools. im thinking using them once in a blue moon, not as my only combo wrenches.

Yea I doubt their use is really that good. I'd prefer a nice set of 12pt combo wrenches.

They actually make spline fasteners but i've heard it's mostly in planes. Only one I have come across in the auto industry is a corolla tensioner pulley retention bolt.

i love spline stuff. for breaking rusty hardware lose they are perfect cuz it engages the hardware flat far off the corner, decreasing your chances of rounding it off

I have the SK extra long flex head ratcheting spline wrench set and like them. They're really long and have a smooth ratcheting action.
As for the spline box end, it will fit 6 different types of fasteners (spline, six point,12 point, 50% rounded, female torx, and square) however, the teeth are pretty aggressive and you need a tight fit to begin with or you'll have problems. The teeth will dig into the fastener depending on how much torque is applied and leave marks. They are a good wrench design but like all other multipurpose tools, they have limitations too.

i have the same sk flex head spline wrench set and they are my most used wrenches in my box. the only thing that bothers me sometimes is they will lock onto a nut or bolt and then ill have to work it off but thats not enough to stop me from using them constantly
