While working on restoring my Rockwell planer, I ran into a bit of difficulty in removing the pulleys from the planer and wanted to inquire if there was a 'correct' way or specialty tool to remove the pulleys.
The pulleys were splined for the belt, were smooth and round at the bottom of the pulley and were threaded onto the armature and the cutter spindle. I was able to put a wrench on the cutter spindle and back off the pulley, but the pulley on the armature was a little bit more difficult, as there was absolutely nowhere on the armature to grab on with a wrench.

Is there a socket or specialty wrench that is used to remove them? I felt like a complete hack using a rag and pump pliers on the pulleys to back them off and am still surprised I didn't flatten any of the teeth.
I'm used to working on Skil's which are pressed on with a key.
