Split Level 22x28 First Garage

So we finally moved into our first home 2 weeks ago, which includes my first garage. I have lived places with garages before, but always rented so never had the chance to customize anything. My garage is a 22x28 with two single doors, in our split level home. The previous owners took great care of the house, not so much the garage. The floor and walls need TLC, and there is virtually no lighting at this point. There is only ONE yes....ONE! outlet in the whole garage. Luckily our breaker panel is in there and has plenty of space to expand, so I will be adding some circuits in soon. Here are a few pics as it stands now, I haven't done anything yet, just finished cleaning up trash and moving boxes.

My biggest issue is the pole in the center. I cant fit the truck on the left side due to the bump out in the wall, and due to the pole I have to pull far forward in order to open my door, which leaves wasted space behind the garage.

Pics of wasted space, I originally planned on putting a workbench along that back wall with the electric panel on it. Im open to suggestions on storage and space usage. Lots of nice garages on here....I'm all ears!

Welcome! That looks like a nice space to start working on. I'm also new here, been lurking for a while and also gathering ideas for my garage reno.

While I don't have a pole in the middle of the garage, I need to park on just one side as well and with the length of my truck, if I close the big door, getting around the truck to get inside the house gets tight. I started backing in so my drivers side door is in the middle of the garage and getting in and out is easy. I figure I need to back the truck up either coming or going, so getting it backed in just makes life in the garage so much easier.

Can't wait to see the progress on the space.

Congrats on your first garage/home! I agree that the pole isn't ideal. Not sure if it is possible, but it would be awesome if you could get a steel beam installed so you could lose the pole. It is an option for the homes being constructed with triple garages in our neck of the woods. You sure have a nice amount of depth.

I see this as an opportunity for a new truck that fits the garage better! Or, have you tried backing in?

1st build a storage shed for all the stuff that will get "stored" in the garage eliminating your free space for benches and tools. Have fun

HAHA! Thing is, I like to keep my vehicles clean (dont mind the grimy truck, its been snowing here all week), and have always wanted a garage so I will certainly be parking my truck inside. I actually just bought the truck right around when I bought the house so I won't be selling it either...absolutely love it.

As for plans, I enjoy wrenching on my vehicles so the plan is to have a nice clean functional space. I intend to install a bench along the back wall, with cabinets above it to the ceiling. I'll probably build everything out of wood. I plan on moving those two giant trash cans outside, but have to keep them because the township has automatic trash trucks that pickup the cans and dump them. I'm thinking I'll build a small shed on the side of the house to store things like rakes, weedwacker, lawnmower, etc.

So far the only thing I bought is a Craftsman toolbox. I know its nothing crazy but will suit my needs just fine for the time being.

Still trying to plan it, but I'll probably run the electric this week for the outlets. Thinking of just doing armored cable and boxes along the back wall, and just getting a reeled extension cord for when I need to move around the garage with something.

We got about 7" of snow tonight, so currently its a sloppy mess, I need to sort out the drainage issue (or lack thereof) the water just sits in there from melted snow.

I have a very similar garage in a split level home. I'll post some updated pictures with ideas and things you might appreciate.
