Garage journal has been a big help (know enough to be dangerous)

I framed a 40' square house garage combo. The garage is hardly half of the house width so.... Basement shop. Thus "split level"

Traditional garage door installed on entry side. Trying out some transom windows (any suggestions how to rig the opening mechanism on auto-locking windows?). Barn door (12'x12') on back wall will open to woodshed and trailer storage areas. Garage height is 13', basement is one inch over my head before sheetrock it looks like.

Transom windows. Probably could have gone for the grilles, but very happy with the ventilation.

It took me a minute to figure out what was going on there, but that's a pretty awesome space with the basement accessible straight from the garage.

And here's the latest with the drive-thru garage. 4"x3/8 flatbar is up (lags 16" oc into blocking behind the wall). Thirty one tongue and groove 2x6x12's glued up. Went ahead and blew the budget for some rollers rated at 800lb.

I will post pics this weekend once it's in the air. The plan is to come back with tyvek and then side the door to match the rest of the house.

Looking forward to seeing this build! Are you going to keep the ramp as is or add stairs? I like the ramp concept. Very cool and different setup. I like it

The plan is for all benches to be rollerboxes and store in the "tool shop" below. The garage will hopefully take the place of my shade tree.

Here's the beta barn door. Again all you're looking at is basically DAP subfloor glue holding 2x6 spruce T&G straight. Estimated 400lb. come-along and high-lift jack

Phase 2 will be cedar 2x4s on the sides, pressure treated on the bottom, possibly 1/2" plywood external skin on door

Phase 3 will be tyvek and lap siding over the door, with the last 48" in board and batten or something to mirror my concrete walls.

possibly sheet metal kicker on the interior depending on clearance. Any other ideas?
