Spokeshave

So I found a spokeshave at a flea market and I think a got a good deal. Not sure if it’s a Stanley but it looks to be in good condition.

Anyone know what brand this would be?

Possibly a Stanley, but probably someone else. With no cast on marks, pretty hard to say. The cap and iron are both easily replaced, so that would not be definitive if there was a mark there.

Could also be Stanley made for someone else, like a hardware chain.

You can see more spokeshaves in the show your hand plane thread, on the vintage side, maybe one has some tiny differences you can see.

Hmm.. doesn’t have the adjusters of the 151 and has a cutout in the blade which the 51 didn’t have. There’s a lot of info specific on Stanley shaves here:

I'm not saying it's Chinesium, but I have a Chinesium one that looks a lot like that. And it's surprisingly useful. Maybe someday I'll run across a really good one at a bargain price.

I've used my little cheapie to make a fair number of walking sticks out of green wood. I'm not sure how well it would do on fully seasoned oak or hickory.
