Spool Gun 10' or 20'?

Guys,
I have a Hobart Handler 210 and am considering a spoolgun, maybe not now but definitely on my list of wants (big list).
I noticed that the 10' spool guns cost about HALF of what the 20' ones cost. Based on your experience, is the extra length worth all that extra money? This is something I will not use very often. I can't see 10 feet of wires being worth $200 at all.

It just depends on what you're doing with it. For smaller projects on a table probably not but if you do boats or trailers probably yes.

Its gonna let you get farther away from your power supply. If you need to work inside a confined area 15 or 20 feet inside a cargo trailer etc.. up on a steel roof who knows. Think can I get my machine to the project? Just my 2 cents.

I use a spool gun on my MM210 quite often, and I can't recall a time where the 10 or 12 feet I have could not handle the job. I work in a maintenance department and our electrical genius told me at one time when I had my equipment over at his residence fabricating and welding his trailer, that if I ever felt the need for a longer length all I would need to do is splice in the needed wires with the appropriate sized conductor and add some length to the shielding gas hose and it would be good to go. Hope this helps.

Mine has a 12 foot cable and I have wanted that extra 8 feet quite a few times. I don't usually weld ten feet from the machine, it is going around or over what I am welding that eats up the length.

Luckily, I run mine off of a Passport Plus, so I can move the suitcase closer to the job.

Enough rambling, I don't think it is worth the $200 if you are not going to be using it often.

Thanks guys, you confirmed what I was thinking. I will go with the 10', because this is not something I would use much, and it is hard enough to spend $200 let alone $400.

i work on fishing boats, up here in dillingham alaska. right now i am set up with a miller shopmate 300, and a 30 amp spoolgun. i run 40 feet of lead so that i can reach anywhere in the shop, and outside when a boat is parked out front. this is a situation where the extra lead is necessary, and well worth the money. if you dont need it, go with as little as possible. it is easier to handle
