A lot of people today are not using spot weld cutters but instead are using small belts sanders and simple sanding/grinding through the spot weld. Quite a bit faster.
I've never used those rotabroach style cutters on a regular basis. Ive only use spot weld drill bits.. in size 5/16 and sometimes 3/8". I dont know why people like the rotabroach style, they do not remove the spot weld itself... it only cuts around it. The drill bit type will remove the weld, and you wont have to grind it away before putting the new panel up to it.
You want the best ? buy the dentfix drill bits.

It is so much faster to use the rotabroach and then grind off the small spot weld that is left. There is a reason these are the standard in the auto body world.this is what I have been using also, and would agree with what you say above, then you would have to grind that "hole saw" piece off afterwards-
The ASTRO or Dynabrade 3/8" or 1/2" wide air driven belt sanders using a 3M 577F Alumina/Zirconia 36 grit belt will grind through a spot weld faster than you can drill it. Check the following link on 3m's website: http://3mcollision.com/products/abrasives/belts/3m-green-corps-abrasive-file-belt-36-grit-31801.html
Watch the video at the link provided. If you can get a drill on it you can get one of these miniature belt sanders on it.
This is absolutely true. Talked to my paint rep about these belt sanders today. He said they pushed them hard for a little bit and they have their place for sure, however in the body shop world the rotabroach is still king.It all depends on which piece you are cutting, which piece you are saving and which piece you are not saving.
I remove spot welds many different ways, Rotobroach is just one of the ways.
