When spot welding together two pieces of sheet metal, to avoid rusting is there a way to treat the sides of the metal that get sandwiched together that will not interfere with getting a good spot weld?
There are seam sealers and adhesives made for spot welding through. They can get messy and expensive. Another option is to prime the mating surfaces with a quality primer (epoxy is best) let it dry over night and then shunt the spot weld. See the below link for more info on that process.
