Ok, I bought the SPP744 to assist in rebuilding ratchets. $1 with free shipping, there is almost no reason why everyone here shouldn't own one...

Except maybe for how they waste money packaging it.

I'm not a green-tech, eco-peace, electric car preaching, organic farming evangelist, but this just seems excessive.

Really Snap-On? This thing wouldn't be safe in a padded envelope?
:headscrat:wtf::confused:

I don't think even Merk could justify Snap-On for this one...hehe :)

I have ordered both from Snap-on and MATCO and they both way over package....and I'm fine with that I would rather my stuff get here is one piece after seeing how some postal/ups/fedex workers treat packages. If it bothers you recycle the materials used and call it good.

Oh I will definitely reuse the packaging.

Over-packaging I am ok with. Things like computer parts, collectibles, etc make sense.

But this thing?

Mine came the same way ... they've also sent ratchet rebuild kits to me that way too. They probably figure UPS would lose a package that was any smaller.

A little tip when rebuilding ratchets, we all know those tiny balls, springs etc that usually ends up somewhere in the room when replacing the parts. Take a large clear plasticbag, and do the job inside the bag. If something is dropped, its dropped inside the bag, and not somewhere in the room....

The only way it would have made it safely in a padded envelope is to shrink wrap/ vacupac to a sub straight costs between the two packing methods would be very close.

I have gotten parts for our equipment at work in a 4ftx4ft box and the part easily fit in my hand. Wrapped in newspaper, bubble wrap, then brown papwer and backed in a ton of packing peanuts. For a $20 part.

:wtf:

And on the flip side I have received $150,000 parts that were shipped in a $0.25 cardboard box and it looked like it was floated down the river and attacked by grizzly's on the way over.

If I need a Snappy ratchet fixed I give it to the Snappy guy. They charge enough for the tools, they can fix the darn thing like Sears does.

Reminds me of an Online Metals order a while back:

The brass bar stock was the only thing in the box!:wtf:

I guess I should be happy, it could have arrived bent in a U-shape with a stamp on it. :lol_hitti

It just boggles my mind.

Especially now when times are tough for companies, this seems an easy way for them to save money.

LOL, I just had my Snappy guy order one and drop it off when it came in. I think it was 87 cents.... Snap-on did the same for my new locks when I replaced them. A huge box with almost nothing inside.

I just ordered one today after struggling far too long last night cleaning a 936 Ratchet.
