Where or how do you organize your spray cans? I used to have a small 1x3 shelf around the top of my garage walls that would allow you to have your cans all lined up no more than 1 deep. It worked really well.....and i liked it. I am finding that i have too much **** in my garage now and cant get to it as easy. All my cans of penetrating lube, goof off, various teflons, lithium, small grease cans, and misc are all piling up on my tool box and on my work bench.

Do they make some kind of organizer for this stuff or any good diy solutions?

I like the idea of maybe one of those old wooden sectioned soda crates to slide them all into. Perhaps ill try that.

Right now my goals would be to make it accessible and easy to find what i need quickly.............and free up my bench and toolbox space.

Shallow, purpose built shelves, I currently have to stack them four deep to fit the cabinet I have. I hate it. Several GJ members have posted pictures and I am sure pinterest has tons as well.

Spray can shelves.......

YEah..i hear you on the 4 deep thing. I dont have any wall space. I have it all in the soda crate now or almost all....and its okay.....but the problem is now that although it is moble because the crate had handles which is nice.....it is hard to find a spot to put the thing and also hard to see what i am looking for.

I might try milk crates.. Those are perforated and very stackable. That might work ok. Handles are nice too because come winter you want to haul all that **** indoors where it is heated so it doesnt go bad. That would make that chore quick and easy.

As i am cleaning and organizing i have same exact question for tubes of stuff like form a gasket, antisize, etc. I am thinking i can roll those up from the bottom and put a string on them and hang them from peg board or something.

My mind has been on getting my toolbox drawers organized. For some reason when I saw the title i was thinking organization in a spray can. Oh well. I currently have my spray cans in a big tub, until I het some shelving built.

All in one small box.
If I built shelves I would just accrue more when I prove daily I don't need more. I dont mix paint with spray solvents because i dont lubricate or clean with paint.
Thats in a different box.

Seen this before and has been on my list of things to do. Use 2x4s to space a piece of lattice 3-1/2" off a wall. Use the holes in the lattice to hold all your spray cans. They'll sit in there at a slight angle. Size it match however many you usually have.

At work, I have stored them in a locker type cabinet with most used out front. Not the most organized but it worked with many different cans. Still working on a better setup.

At home, I've got them lined up single file on a shelf as deep as the shelf, excess stays in the box elsewhere. Stuff like Loctite, anti-sieze and RTV tubes, I use 3gal Rubbermaid totes to store them since they dont stack well as is. Also can be brought in easily when it freezes.

I have an old metal wire spice rack that I garbage picked many years ago. It was designed to hang over a door. It has 5 or 6 shelves, almost exactly the right depth for spray cans/anti-seize/etc. Bonus is it fits exactly between studs on the garage wall.

I use the top of my Craftsman chest, more commonly used ones in the top of my Kennedy chest on my bench, and the extras are in a file cabinet drawer.

I throw them away or use them for target practice. I won’t spend $100 to store a $5 can of paint for 10 years only to have the nozzle be clogged.

Here's mine. All cans easy to put away and easy to identify. Close the doors and everything is out of sight. Holds 66 cans. These photos taken before the build was finished.......added more blue bins later.

The 2nd pic is from another GJ thread

That is nice work. I love those harbor freight organizers. Much better than the small organizers with the tiny drawers. It wont be long and i will need so build something like this for all the hf ones i have bought. I like that.

I made something like that shown by txvwnut, but out of 1/4" round. Having access to a laser cutter now, I'd probably do something like Retrosmith's storage if I needed to do it again. I don't know how some of y'all get by with only 2 or 3 spray cans of stuff. Between brake cleaner, carb cleaner, degreaser, paint, WD40, PB blaster or similar, bug spray, and whatever else I have, I bet I have 60 or 70, at least.

Did you do the laser cutting yourself, or farm it out?

What did you pay, or would you expect to pay a local shop that does that kind of work?
