Just wondering how much protection I would need when spraying this as it contains isocyanates. I have access to a booth with filter pads and a 3m full face mask with organic vapor filters. Discussion of this product ranges from "its no biggie" to "you'll kill all your neighbours if you spray it outside".

I know when a coworker sprayed Endura epoxy paint he was fully covered and smeared Vaseline around his mask to keep absolutely everything out.

Personally, I wear full face with P100, 60926 filters, with a sock over them. I also wear a bunny suit, if I'm doing something bigger that can't just set in front of the exhaust fan. I don't like when that **** glues itself to my skin, hair, eyes or lungs. But, you do whatever makes you comfortable.

I've sprayed 2K (Including SprayMax Clear) with a 3M respirator with filters, longsleeves, pants, gloves, etc. Depending on what circles you speak with, even this can be a no-no due to the isocyanates. Now, as I have my own shop and am doing a lot more painting with 2K chemicals, I've invested in a Hobby-Air Positive Pressure air-fed hood. I just used it for the first time last week. After getting a air-supplied hood, I will never go back to traditional respirators. Much more comfortable, and no thoughts in the back of my head about being less than protected.

I am a hobby painter so have only used 3M organic with filters. If it was a full time job I would go with the fresh air type system. Been doing the occasional spray job, mostly smaller stuff, for 50 years starting with catalyzed enamel and then moving to the 2k urethanes. Lungs are probably the best organs I have at this point. Let’s not talk about joints, they are a mess. LOL

Anything less toxic that would be gasoline proof on a motorcycle tank?
No. 2 Part is what is required for gasoline resistance. If you wear a paint suit and common sense, I would shoot it with a proper respirator, PLENTY of ventilation, and covering your skin (& eyes). Be smart, use caution.

I've used the 2k spray max with good results and only used the 3m mask that you can buy from them for that usage. We used to spray tractors with original paint but included a hardener to firm up the paint. Probably wasn't good for us though. I'm thinking too that if one doesn't want to invest in the 2k clear you might be able to have a local automotive paint store that mixes paint into spray cans mix up some 2k for you. You would only have a week or so to spray it though and perhaps the nozzle isn't as good as the spray max nozzle. I had goo luck spraying the 2k clear over Duplicolor spray that only dried perhaps a couple hours.

Spray max in the aerosol cans wont throw much overspray in the air like a paint gun will. With new OV carts in your 3m full face youll be fine. Might want to wear latex gloves and long sleeves but for such a small amount of painting you'll have no issues.
