Spray on/roll on bedliners

I just bought a a nice 2006 Chevy Silverado and it has never had any bed protection (plastic liner, or mat). It does have some normal scratches from being used, but the bed is in good shape. I'd like to go with a spray on/roll on bedliner that I can do myself. I'm looking for recomendations and reviews on what brand to use. I've seen several trucks that have them and they all seem to hold up well. Is one brand better then the other?? Is there a certain type to stay away from?? Any tips that they don't tell you in the instructions on applying it???

I helped a friend do his F250 with the Dupli-color kit. We had to apply two coats, but it was easy to do and it's held up well for over a year now.

I bought a CJ5 several years ago with the Duplicolor liner on it. Absolute garbage. It peeled up with little to no effort and the prior owner followed the application instructions to a T.

My CJ5 (one I built) has had Herculiner in it since '98 and it's still in excellent condition.

I've seen very good reviews on U-Pol Raptor and Lizard Liner.

Doesn't make as much a difference as to what product you use so much as the quality of the prep work does. I guess it's pretty much like anything coating/paint related, the preparation is the hardest and most important part of the project.

Al's bedliner worked great in my wrangler. Sprayed it last Novemeber and still looks new. The only thing i would do different would have been to add the vinyl flattener for a more matt finish.

I put Herculiner in my Jeep last summer, and it looks to be holding up great so far... but Herc is not UV resistant unless you use a special top coat, so it will dull over time.

I've heard a lot of good things about http://monstaliner.com/, and I'm kicking myself for not using it when I did my jeep. It seems to be better than Herculiner in almost every way... and about the same cost.

I have the Durabak DIY liner in my jeep and Herc on the underside of my tub.

For undercoating, the Herc is fine.

But if I ever do a truck bed or another jeep...I'll pay someone to do it...like LineX. Its a lot of work and the spray in jobs look a whole lot better.

When I got my '05 Silverado in '08 I had Rhino Liner sprayed in the box. I've been real pleased with it so far and is very durable.

I used spray on bedliner from Southern Polyurethanes. Went on easily and I got excellent support from them as this was my first time spraying the stuff. Called the owner on Saturdays and he promptly called me back even though it was a Saturday. Price was right too. I did a few different colors as I used black for the wheel wells, a green that matched the body for my tube fenders, and a light green for the inside of a small offroad trailer. I would highly recommend their products and service (painted the jeep with their stuff as well).

I can tell you that for some reason, herculiner does not like to stick to flat paint jobs and that dupli-color has always peeled like crazy on my truck.

I used Duplicolor Armourcoat on my current truck in march.
I was a little skepical at first, that a DIY product would be durable, however my budget did not allow a lot of options.
It has had a real workout this summer. Hauling several loads of firewood almost every week since then.
Yes it has peeled in a few small spots, (less then 1/2 square foot total), but overall has held up very well.
Any areas that did lift appear to not have been sanded properly.
FYI, the instruction say to use Red Scotch Brite, and a tiny piece is provided in the kit. However it is no where near sufficient to do a whole pickup box. Instead I used 220 grit sandpaper for the prep.

I just used herculiner to do the rocker panels and fenders on my trailblazer.

With herculiner you have to buy the UV top coat separate.

Best thing is to prep real well.

Also heard good things from raptorliner and line-x

I have Rhino lining in my truck, as I did in the truck prior to this one. I'll save myself the headache and pay someone to spary it for me.

As others have said prep is the most important part. I did mine myself about 6 years ago and it has held up absolutely fine. No peeling and no fading. Mine had an option to buy a UV stabilizer which I had to add to the coating just before I sprayed it on. Sorry I do not remember the brand. I only recall it was not any of the brands mentioned here. It came premixed in unmarked containers so I never really committed it to memory.

Anyhow as I said prep it the most important part. I completely scuffed the entire bed then, as per instructions, washed it all down with Methyl Ethyl Keytone using a coarse scotch pad. Probably gave myself cancer in the process.

To spray it on I picked up a dirt cheap Horrible Freight spray gun which I drilled out the nozzle to allow the thicker liner to blow through.

Again turned out great but I would NEVER do it again as it just took to much time. I'll pay Line X with my next truck.

I installed Herculiner on my old truck ('94 K1500 stepside). Echo the prep is everything. That said, roll on really didn't make for a great texture. It was really rough. The liner itself was thin so it didn't offer any protection. It did succeed in cleaning up the bed in that it covered all the scratched and made a uniform finish.

My new truck I invested in LineX. Better product and IMO very well worth it. Do it once and the truck bed is set. It is good and thick, UV protected, warrantied and textured great. Quality product.

I've tried the cheap **** in my truck and my jeep. Both the duplicolor and the Herculiner. Hated both of them. Went with the roll in Monstaliner from magnet paints in my YJ a year ago to replace the **** duplicolor that was in it ( what hadn't just peeled out anyway) and I love it. It's held up great so far, comes in tons of colors, and looks fantastic. It's also UV stable. I love it so much I'm gonna strip what's left of the Herculiner out of my Rams bed and re do that with the Monstaliner soon too

Just don't get Herculiner on your hootus. :shocking:

I haven't heard that reference in many years, but not one i'll ever forget.

Thanks to the dude for posting it on the internet and letting me learn from his mistakes.

I'll continue to echo what others have said about prep.

I waited til line-x was on sale, they did the tundra's bed for $350 including everything.

Took it in, got it back in a few hours and it's awesome. with all the gravel, dirt, etc as well as holding a camper much of the year it hasn't had any issues.

I just used Durabak on the bed of a 59 Chevy Fleetside. Came out great with two rolled on coats. The package includes 2 rollers for application. Comes in a ton of different colors. Mine was $120 for the gallon and the application kit. I only did the sidewalls and the front panel and used somewhat less than 1/2 gallon. On their site you can request samples. Comes in either smooth finish or with the rubber chips. I used the light grey with the chips. Lovin it so far.
