spray painting cabinets

I'm paintin my cabinets to match my Craftsman tool box. It is an odd color I could not match with any spray paint. I was able to get a perfect match from the local Ace Hardware. I had them mix up some oil based enamel. I used a brush for two coats and it looks as marginal as you would expect. Now I would like to sand them down and spray them with this paint. I don't have a sprayer and would like to know what would be an economical way to go. I have an adequate compressor. I tried one of the Wagner power painters and that did not work very well at all with this paint. Any suggestions for spraying oil based enamel?

In order to get a real nice finish I'd use automotive paint, in other words something with a hardner. I've used a small HVLP gun, sometimes called a spot gun, for lots of projects with great success. They don't make to much of a mess.

You can get a very inexpensive siphon "detail" gun for about $20 from a variety of places. Thin the paint (maybe about 10%-15%) with mineral spirits and shoot it. Done.

Automotive paint would be better but you can get a pretty good finish from the above method.

If your trying to match Craftsman red, Iv'e found Rustoleum
'regal' red to be be a very close match. As Scott suggested
a detail gun works great.
