Spray painting garage

Anyone have advise on renting a spray painting unit to paint garage, primer and finish coat which will be a semi gloss or satin latex paint.

Below is photo of it with insulation installed so you can see I will need to have an extention of some kind and maybe even be on scaffolding. Walls are 9' and center section is 14'.

The floor is covered with a tarp to keep sheet rock guys from ruining it, I hope.

I am in a similar boat with 11'3" ceilings...I am afraid that the overspray will just get everywhere. While a bit more work, esp with the non-flat textures, I am going with my commercial 18" roller on a extension. The 1 suggestion I can make would be to throw some extra money to your sheet rock guys and let them leave the scaffolding there for a few days so you can paint.

I go with the roller on a stick. It isns't that much work and it is a lot neater.
I like the idea of paid storage of the scaffolding for a week end, but don't be suprised if they don't use it.
Around here they use stilts, like a circus clown, and a panel jack up tripod. It is kind of scary to watch them walking around, and they really don't like having "short people" around because they often don't see them and are afraid of tripping. But I have seen their feet at my 6 foot head level.

I tried the power roller on my sister's garage. I found it awkward to pull the trigger for more paint while using the roller. Also I disliked the paint flow. The paint only comes out at the holes in the roller which left dots that had to be rolled out. Too much paint left many runs which took a long time to spread out.

I then spray painted my shed. You can paint a 1/4 in around the window. Great! The over spray was unacceptable everything got painted. My grass matches my shed.

When the weather gets cooler I will attempt to paint the inside of my garage. It has an 16 ft ceiling. My thoughts are to spray. Buy several blue plastic tarps. remove most of my stuff outside and go to it.

I would second the good old fashion roller as well, you get good coverage and paint thinkness, as you don't have to thin the paint.
I painted my garage including walls and ceiling 9' feet high with eggshell white, brush and rollers.. wouldn't even think of spraying!
14' area, you should be able to get a higher ladder? Home depot rents ladder.

Is that the unit you used to paint your paint shed?

I already have a tarp down so drywall people will not mess up concrete floor. Was the overspray unacceptable? So would you use same unit to paint your garage?

Yes, the DX is a great spray unit. It was very good on the sheds T111 siding. The paint was between regular and thick consistency.

I would suggest you spray the sealer coat, as it is thin. Then try the color.

My friend borrowed it for his garage. Sprayed till the paint ran, then he went over it with a roller. His point was, most of your time is spent on putting the paint on the wall. Moving it around takes seconds.

I sprayed mine, then backrolled the walls. Workd great and I did not feel that overspray was a problem. I used scaffolding and an extension for my 12' ceilings. I would do it that way again. I bought the sprayer. I think it was around $300. Renting for the number of days it took wouldhave cost nearly as much. I've found other uses for the sprayer too. I can reseal the deck of my trailer in about 5 minutes!

I smaller spray tip will eliminate a lot of the overspray, although it takes longer. Spray and backroll is probably the quickest way to go. But if you don't have access to a sprayer, it is probably not worth renting. 18" rollers work great.
