you guys did know somebody just posted a set of those little "zenel" wrenches on ebay the other day, right?

$25 + $8 shipping now and nobody's bid on 'em yet. ends Sunday.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Bon...=item465bfd9f24:g:oCMAAOSw241YcphA&rmvSB=true

So now it's $39.99 OBO https://www.ebay.com/itm/302197337778
Post-war date codes and no "ZENEL" marking on the wrenches themselves. I don't doubt they are Zenel alloy, but they don't say it. Sort of misses two markets.

They say the following

All say chrome vanadium with a circle with cv
Also have bonney symbol on them

E8 Bon(cv)ney
1/4" and 9/32" wrench- e4 H12
5/16" and 11/32 wrench- hT H14
13/32 and 15/32 wrench- h4 H18
3/8" and 7/16 wrench- Ju H18

Thanks!

The E8 is a carburetor wrench and not part of the H-series set. It could be from a 10-wrench set in a different roll, or maybe from a smaller set of tools.
My guess is the e4 and H4 are really ET and HT. So this is a set with date codes from May 1928, Aug 1928, and Oct 1929 (as usually interpreted). How a CV set got into a Zenel pouch is anyone's guess. Maybe the original CV pouch was worn out or the set was originally purchased in a cardboard box and never had a pouch. Plenty of these wrenches are floating around loose, but the pouches are kess common. If you were looking to sell, I think selling the pouch separate from the wrenches might maximize the appeal.

I thought they looked familiar when they were re-listed the other day.
That would not be the first time I've seen an Ebay seller re-list an item that didn't sell at a higher price - certainly nothing out of the ordinary.

I should have paid better attention to your post above. I was looking for "Zenel" (not "CV") and found this. Thought you might appreciate it.
I'm fairly certain I saw some "CV" stuff in that folder as well.

Yeah, I was watching those two images as magazine advertisements on eBay for a couple of months. Really affordable, but I just couldn't figure where to put them. It would be super cool to find one of the prints they mention in the italics. Then I would have to have both the ad and the print.

Picked up a couple of screwdrivers today. I had a 06 before; now I have almost a second one (tip ground down pretty far) and a nice shortie S01.

These fellas caught my eye and came home, too. All pre-1921 (no date codes). Wondering about the B-shield versus the no-B (chevrons) shield logos. Which is earlier?

And finally, brought home two more unfinished wrenches, gullets unground, no stamps. Date codes for 1927, or maybe 1941. No Bonney stamp to give us a clue.

the short straight one is 21, the s-curve one is 671D

So maybe you're still on the lookout for the 21?

I'm hoping that one of you Bonney aficionados here can help me out. I'm looking for a Bonney Bonaloy long pattern DBE #2893C (opening sizes are 3/4" and 11/16") with a wartime date code (S,T,U,V,W) to go along with this pair of wrenches. Happy to buy or trade. I know they're out there!
I've been working on this 'set' of wrenches for a wartime general mechanics tool kit for some time, and this would be the final wrench to complete the puzzle.

Here are the other 2 DBEs from the 'set', for your viewing pleasure. Both wrenches are dated I.T. (Oct. 42) but have different finishes to them. Numbers are 2894B and 2894C. They appear to have been made from the same wrench blank. Dimensions are identical except for the milled openings. These wrenches came to me separately, but oddly, both are engraved US, presumably by the military.

Less talk, more pics.

I see a 2893 and two 2893Bs on eBay right now. Too bad only the 3/4 end is common to what you want. Also, the date code is barely visible on one and not pictured on the other two. Am I right to assume you're following a search for your part number?

Joseph Edward "Ned" Durham and Fred Stranahan Durham (brothers) were 1906 graduates of Princeton University.

Logo looks kind of familiar, doesn't it?

What do you think? Westinghouse? The markings shown are all there are.

Hello all, I'm JL4C. My username is an amalgam of my and my wife's first initials, and those of our four children whose names all start with 'C.' I live in the western US. Beyond that, well I don't like putting a lot of personal details online so I hope you'll pardon me for that. I've been a lurker on GJ, this forum and this thread for some time now. I decided to register for two reasons:

1. So I could see all the photos in this thread which are not view-able by guests. Up to now, all I could see were the inline images. Now I'll have to go back through all 32 pages to see the rest of the eye candy.

2. So I could find a home for the single Bonney combination wrench that I have. I'm certain that someone here will receive greater enjoyment from it than me. I don't know how long ago I bought it. I paid $5 because I recognized quality, even though I didn't know the Bonney name at the time. It's a 23718 satin finish, long pattern 9/16"--which I've since learned is essentially identical to a MATCO WCL182. I just don't run across them out here and I have plenty of SAE wrenches to suit my needs. I'd sell it for what I paid (+ shipping) or perhaps trade for something from SK or Wright. I'd even ship in advance and the seller can pay me upon receipt of item and finding everything satisfactory.

Being newly registered I couldn't post this in the classifieds section. Besides, most everyone who might want it is in this thread. It's unlikely I'll ever have 100 posts because I'd rather listen here than talk. I hope you'll pardon the irregularity of my first post. Carry on gentlemen, and thank you.

UPDATE:
Wrench has found a new home.

Just curious but would you like me to post a story on bonney tools or would you guys not be interested?

Woody, in spite of several people giving you encouragement to do so, I don't believe you ever shared your Bonney tool story.

Thanks gentlemen, I now have another collection that I really did not need! :D
Tool store near by is clearing old stock. Been picking up interesting bits there the last few weeks. They only put out 10-15 things most days. Well thanks to this thread I have been keeping an eye out for Bonney.
Got these this week. Have more wrenches, but they are up in my workshop about an hour away, will take a pick of them over the weekend if I think of them.
All this is nos, one of the wrenches suffered some rust (this is Ireland, everything rusts here! :)) but over all they are great condition. Not too sure what I will do with them, don't expect to add to it too much, how much Bonney items can there be here?

Ment to add, I find it interesting that there is different stamping on the V-702k ratchet, much larger on one than the other, only though after I left the store that I forgot to pick up one of the speeders, they had 4 of them. If they are still there next week I will add one, or a couple!

Nice finds, Lostboy!

Even if you don't need them  acquiring Bonney tools is never a bad idea. They are solid tools, and you can always find a buyer. They have been "discovered" over the past couple of years, and now command pretty good prices especially if in good condition.

Your satin finish combo wrench were the lower priced line to the full polish. Not as pretty, but easier to grip. Plus, I think they are a tad bit thicker in the shank. Since I have some of both, close examination leads me to believe all of Bonney wrenches start out as satin finish. Some get the extra steps of smoothing and polishing, which removes just a bit of the steel. It's a very slight difference, but one that you can just see when comparing them side by side.

Can't explain the different font sizing on your ratchets. I also have several of the different drive sizes, with some having the larger stamp and the others are small. (The sockets tend to have that difference as well). Must have been a forge change somewhere along the line.

@StillTooManyHobbies, it's very hit and miss what they put out, think I have bought all the Bonney I have seen except the 3/4 speeders, which I just forgot.
There are no sets, just lose stuff in boxes, all different makes, on one visit all I found was a single Bonney socket. It's completely random. I will keep buying what I see, and will post up everything here when I get a chance. If I can help your collection I will.

Building towards a set of 14 CV Chrome Vanadium extra deep 1/2dr sockets from the 1941 catalog. Still a few to fill and a few to upgrade from "almost" the right era.
