Just look here I found a E6 folding wrench. I got it off eBay and it arrived today. I am a little annoyed at the seller and will not buy from that person again. It took a week to go 350 miles from their location to mine. The seller did not ship it until the 13th and they had their money immediately on a buy it now. Oh well I wait a week and give them a neutral rating.

Guess I had a better eBay experience this week. Got a complete No18 ignition set, with an E12 tool and No2572 ignition pliers, plus a 1159 Bonaloy 5/16 combo marked BZ(Feb1948). Most have remnants of CV decals.
Now, I would be thrilled, except...I already had five of the ignition tools (two rather recently), and an older HW(Aug1945) 1159. So now, those previous E-tools are surplus.
Still, these appear to be all from the same period (MADE IN U.S.A.), probably the same original set, except for the pliers (and the combo). The ones I already had included both “made in” and plain “USA”.

Thanks, Lugz, but I’m thinking of displaying these in a framed panel, with E-series electrical does and H-series miniature does.
That’s awful nice, Mike. Looks like 1943. I spotted one about that size early this summer, but the vendor wanted $25, or somesuch, which I didn’t care to pay.
Today was my last flea of the year, picked some Bonney. Really stoked about the pre-1906 alligator wrench. (Edit - I think I had this confused with the combo adj pipe wrench & cutter.)

Yea the thing was for $10.00 from a local guy. He resells used tools. Always a fair price. All I did to this wrench is give it a shot of brake cleaner as it had at least 5 layers of grease on it.

And it was GONE! ****, GONE!

Man those Bonney's were in rather rough shape. The MEB15 in the center looks to have been bent either by a torch or someone was really reefing on it. It took me a year to rebuild my set and some of those are marginal in the metric set. They are still better than any other sets of metric I have acquired over the years as they are good U.S.A. made. My long reach chrome set goes from 10 MM to 20 MM and my black finish short reach st goes from 8MM to 19 MM with no skips.

Gadzooks that is a nice set of wrenches!!!
I have the same long styles except for the 20mm, and the shorts are hit and miss. I think I have 6 thru 9mm, then up from there it one here and one there.

MY black set goes 6-19 MM. I just relooked at them. My prior post said from 8 MM to 19 MM. The Chrome long set was almost entirely missing except for 14 MM and I filled it Harry Epsteins and eBay. It still took a year to get it back but at least I have them and use them. The black set are former military stock as the blue carrier has a FSN (federal stock number) that I got off eBay. For the 20 MM I got mine from Harry Epsteins https://www.harryepstein.com/index.php/20mm-long-comb-wr-bonney.html

Thanks for the tip, Mike.

I find my metric Bonneys come in the handiest on bicycle repair. Alot of mild steel and aluminum fasteners that haven't always had the right tooling used on them (i.e. vise grips). The Bonneys make short work of rounded bolts. And very rarely do I come across an SAE fastener except maybe on a real oldie.

I went pawn shopping today and discovered a 5/8ths P/N 1120 Bonney wrench, This "TTTed" me off. I got it for $2.50 but the whole thing is this wrench was stolen from me. I had marked it and after talking to the pawn shop owner he went from $10.00 to the $2.50. There was no way to know who actually took the wrench in so nobody has recourse in the matter. Oh well it is now back in my collection.

I had marked it with my initials and last four of my SSN. I blurred the last four numbers.

Back then we had a guy that got caught stealing tools and fired from the company. When the police dept got a search warrant and search his home he had over 10 K in stolen tools and this was over 20 years ago. I guess they did not recover everything.

Wow - even for $2.50 - that is a remarkable reunion. After 20 years, to find your own wrench still in your own community - that’s really amazing.
I found a back pack at a benefit auction once that I had leant to a friend, maybe three years previous. I decided at the time I didn’t need it back, though since then, I wish I had recovered it, since it was a Boy Scout canvas pack mounted on a US military frame (which had belonged to a second, mutual friend).

Not surprised that some Bonney tools have survived down under. I have found Bonney in alot of unexpected places.
Do they have a website?

That's the best boomerang tool story I've seen in awhile.
The whole thing is the fact that the wrench has been "missing" for over 20 years. I guess that is the benefit of marking your tools I know that it decreases the value of the tools. I never even thought about ever seeing that wrench and then it turns up. I do remember after the wench went missing I went over to Grainger and bought a replacement.

In 1941, this is what Bonney's No. 25 engineers' wrench set looked like. Chrome Vanadium line, stickers on each wrench, sewn-in patch decal.

attachment.php

In 1946, they extended the Bonaloy steel line, previously available only in box end wrenches, to their engineers wrenches, supplied in a pouch without any flamboyant patches, and no stickers on each wrench. Here is the No. 25.

attachment.php

In between, during the war, they made alloy steel wrenches without the Bonaloy branding. They used the same dies as the CV line, but no CV markings on the shanks. Many of them were supplied to the US Army Ordnance Dept for tool-sets, including GMTKs. The entire No. 25 set was the GMTK wrench set. With no duplicate ends, and sizes spanning 3/8" to 1", it was efficient and space-effective. I was extremely fortunate enough to pick up a complete set from eBay earlier this year, and I thought I would update the thread before the clock strikes 12 on the New Year!

All the wrenches have the same "CV" (March 1944) date code except the 1028-S, which has a "GU" (July 1943) date code.

Here it is with my No. 20 Miniature Engineers Wrench Set and my much earlier No. 412 Tappet Wrench Set, both previously shown on this thread.

Lugz, They look great all together like that. Are the mini DOEs marked Zenel, or are they plain?
All, UncleDave posted more Bonney & Bon-e-con toolboards on the Ricks tool “Museum” sale thread. I especially liked the metric & Whitworth combos board, though the hammers, chisels, adjustables...oh, heck, they’re all cool.

Thanks, LS. They're -ZENEL-'s.

I saw those. More modern than what I would want, but yes, still cool. The color schemes on the BON-E-CON's are striking!

I am a little miffed at the way they handled the boards early. They are more organized now and pretty much have them all sorted by brand. Turns out he had a second antique era Bonney I would've bought with my antique era Bonney, but it wasn't offered at the time. It did go to a good Bonney home though (twertsy).

Nice, uncommon, but not unique. I think 1950s, maybe as early as 1940s, maybe into the 1960s. My guess is, yours is on the later end of that range. Bonney screwdrivers of apparently all eras have a strong family resemblance to their more numerous Stanley equivalents. If you search this thread for “screwdriver” you’ll see some other examples.
I posted a couple comparisons and speculations here.

Yeah I think the tooling was expensive, and above a certain size just became cost prohibitive, being that sales volume probably dropped off the larger you went.
According to my 1986 catalog, Loc-Rite on 3/4" drive 12 point sockets stopped at 1 5/8", and wasn't offered at all on 1" drive sockets.

Likewise the full polish finish on wrenches wasn't available above a certain size. Combo wrenches were available in satin from 3/8" thru 2", but full polish stopped at 1 1/4". And angle wrenches up to 1 1/4" were FP, but satin finish on larger sizes.

Cleaned up a 10” wood handle Stillson pipe wrench. The beech handle was split, so I superglued it and filled the gaps with sawdust. Sandpaper and shellac. I think it split because it was a bit loose. The threading on the post didn’t go deep enough for the nut to snug up. I’m glad the nut was okay, because I don’t have a tap the correct size. But I did have a threading die 5/16NF24. So if you ever need a nut for a Bonney 10” Stillson, it’s fine thread 5/16”.

Went to Habitat for Humanities resale store and pawn shopping today.

At the Habitat for Humanities store I found a Bonney Bonaloy 7/8" wrench P/N 1167 and it is now added to the collection

At a pawn shop found a 15 MM Matco WC15M2 Bonney made wrench.

Not a bad day away from the missus as I had my Beagle for companionship. MY collection is getting to be pretty well filled out in the Triangle era and I am slowly acquiring the older pre triangle era

Nice!

I've got a MATCO 15mm angle wrench - and other than the markings is indistinguishable from the corresponding Bonney.
