Wow - nice! HAS to be 3/4dr - that’s what “Hercules” was.
Regarding the sign, my own reaction was similar, but I recall that Mr Miyagi was NOT pleased when Daniel brought him the bonsai from Devil’s Cauldron, and made him return it (a video clip I cannot find on YouTube).

I turned the shop (Kent's in Tucson) upside down looking for sockets and attachments and a box, even as I was wondering if I could get it all through TSA, but they were pretty sure the ratchet had come in solo.

As you guys may recall, LNKMK8 found an entire set earlier this year. See #2218 on page 111 or click here.

Curiously, the head on his ratchet, same part number (4093), does not appear to be pinned together like this one, through two face plates and the frame. I have already PM'd him and asked him to post close-ups. It looks like his is one uniform forging. And so do the figures in the catalogs I have checked. There is no date code, but based on the construction differences, I am assuming this one is older, perhaps first generation. It has been used hard - and you can see the sleeve for the drive plug has been cracked in two places, but it still turns.

The drive plug has a separate part number (4094).

What do you gentleman think of this little S-wrench, date code JQ(Oct1925)?
The faces seem normal thickness, but there are no stamped sizes and the gullets are huge (7/16x9/16) for this size (4”) wrench. I’m thinking it was sold unfinished and ground very expertly, or else ordered special and just not stamped for some reason.

Also, picked up a pre-1921 B-shield-only DOE in 723A (3/16x5/16) to compare with a JM(Oct1921) 723A having the forged-in shank B-shield+“USA” (as opposed to “Made in USA”), as evidence toward our discussion of dating these small guys.

Looks like that "S" wrench was made for gas fittings. Probably was originally painted black epoxy on the handle and the mating surfaces in the gullets were likely also coated in same black epoxy

I have a Puritan Gas wrench (now attached photos) that has a strikingly similar makeup.

I found a Bonney socket that appears unplated. It reminds me a bit of the SK war era sockets. I'm wondering if it may be a Bonney version of such a socket. I don't know Bonney history at all so I'm shooting in the dark

Bonney made sockets from the 30s through the war and well past into the modern era. They were a major supplier of tools, mainly to the Ordnance Dept, during WWII. Prewar sockets through 1942 will have a CV marking. Wartime no CV and MADE IN U.S.A. Postwar just U.S.A. I'm on the road or I would take some pics. Post a pic.

By that information, which I trust, I would suggest war era. No CV. Made In USA.

EDIT: Oops. I see the CV now.

Those are 1930s, pre-WWII. That is the first pattern Bonney branded: CV centered under the name. Later, the CV circle is to the right of the name.
Sure looks like some kind of plating. Corroded nickel or cadmium, or has that been Evaporusted to unoxidized matte plain steel?

Thank you. I agree - the wide-open gullets are a match.

These Bonney wrenches were in my flea market haul from last Thursday. Finally had a chance to clean them up. The BONALOY 11/16" x 3/4" DBE with the 15* angle pattern ends is a WWII GMTK wrench that is not at all easy to find. The "PWA1114" marking on the flip side shank of the -ZENEL- "DU" (1943) 3729 DOE wrench upgrades its ho-humness. The pair of (CV) embedded Princeton shield era DOEs on the bottom are both "BV" (1930).

Bump. Anyone know if these are copies? If not, maybe I can post a question on Amazon hoping a verified buyer has Bonney 1100 series or Matco WCL wrenches to take comparison pics or at least post dimensions. Just curious and definitely NOT buying these. I already have the "real" Bonney combo sets in fractional and metric.

No not Bonney and very likely not as durable but good for a DYI person. For me a trip to a pawn shop would get better higher quality wrenches. Just the other day I picked up full set of Armstrong Industrial metric wrenches with 7-24 MM with no skips for $89.00 a added benefit was the Armstrong’s were made in USA. The Armstrong set will be my primaries use in my road bag

Anyone else interested in the Bonney service wrenches (water pump wrenches)? I put together a set of these and always wondered about the manufacturing dates. So, with input from Private Lugnutz I put together this document helping to date these wrenches.

Definetly not Bonney.

The design is actually closer to the Matco WCL which doesn't have the Bonney lobular box end but rather a conventional, old style box end.

Thanks, appreciate it. Could swear I've seen a side-by-side pic of Matco vs. Bonney broaching, but couldn't find it. Here's a close up of 7/8" Matco and Bonney box ends. Need pic of AmazonBasics now.

I have a date code chart on my site too, which also specifies all the markings you should see as well. I also have all the trademarks updated on the Bonney page, which is interesting from a first use date perspective.

twertsy - is OK to post your the name of your website on here? I love these Bonney tools and would enjoy reading up more on them. Is your site alloy artifacts by any chance? I did stumble across that site while looking for Bonney markings and dates.

Small Bonney lot from last weekend. A trio of 3/8" drive sockets, the 1/2" drive deep, 5/8" streamline combo and the crown jewel - the 1-1/8" Bonaloy combo.

Matco left/Bonney right

Excellent picture showing the difference between the Bonney lobular design and the conventional 12 point design of the Matco.

I think those Amazon wrenches might be Sunex wrenches

Will need to look a bit more into these,
Today's finds were two manifold wrenches, I was fairly sure when I spotted them that there were only two in the catalogue that I had looked through. So thought great completed that collection in one go. But no.
The catalogue lists two under ' starter and manifold wrenches'
2700 which is 5/8 and 3/4
2701 which is 9/16 and 5/8
What I bought was a 2700, which is as above and
2699 which is 9/16 and 1/2?
IMAG1338.jpg

_I have the 2880 which is 3/4 and 5/8 - about to list it with no clue what its worth.. in fact, until i found this thread i was unsure what kind of wrench it was (starter wrench???) I surely couldnt date it... I GAVE IT A TRY BUT GOT CONFUSED/FRUSTRATED PRETTY QUICK WHAT IS YOUR GUESS ON THE YEAR OF MANUFACTURE?

Looks like HV or HU; with “Made in U.S.A.” forged-in, my guess is Aug1943 or Aug1944. If it’s AM, I’m more inclined to go back to Jan1935 than forward to Jan1949.
