“Ignition set”? Can you expand on what that means? I’m sure there was a specific purpose behind most if not all of these, similar to the single side open-end 3/8” I found.

Thank you, Raineman, JjKk40 and everybody who liked the set! I appreciate it a lot: took me a while to get rid of all the rust which was on them - twice as nice to know that it's appreciated!!!

I think the promulgation of “hex” names are meant to draw attention to the tight-spaces advantages of hex-head fasters over square-heads, and then the additional advantages of double-hex tools (Tu-Hex) for turning them.

Unrelatedly, I picked up my now-largest DOE yesterday, a 1041B from 1959. 16”OAL and nearly 4-1/2lbs. However, the 1-5/8 opening has been reground to 1-13/16. 1444C38E-ED37-4894-BDBE-6F10DB9D0622.jpeg7853842D-C85D-4D14-AB05-277E2DFD3451.jpeg
Earlier this week, I eProcured this 4”dia brass disc, which I will mount on a repro wrench board sometime.
DCBA1E03-1C84-4B98-A1FB-869E7DBA1586.jpegIt seems to be original to four 7-1/2” x 25-1/2 to 26” displays in the 1926 catalog: Nos 55, 308, 311 & 608. But I’ve been scheming to mock-up a No80 board (shown in the 1923 catalog), which is 2’ x 6’. This isn’t right, but it would save me the effort of stenciling a logo, and could be removed.

Top one is NAF39433 with Date Code FI Very thick stock. Jaws not dimensioned but prolly 5/8 & 3/4

Lower one is W2030 with Date Code GT Whitworth jaws 3/8 & 1/2.

I would be interested to see smaller or bigger mates to these.

I don't have any true mates, but I do have a few close cousins made for this side of the pond. They're not very common. These are the only three I have ever managed to see in the wild. Mine are from 1926 and 1927, but I believe yours is from 1942. Probably Lend-Lease with old stock before the alloy restrictions reprieve period was over.

So I've been scowling through ebay listings of drivers and such trying to luckily find a duro-grip screwdriver for my duro ignition sets. I bought this lot in the pics and boom, a dirty crusty Bonney driver showed itself when I opened the package and started looking though.!!! A quick shot of Mothers VLR on a lint-free paper towel and it cleaned up awesome!!! Some before and after pics....

Thanks guys! I have the black and yellow handle one of these with the neon tube as well. I think this orange handle driver comes in one of the sets that Oldtuleguy has

I have (apparently) a 311 board. It's about 8" x 28". It has this exact 4" dia. badge you have but NOT (edit) nearly as nice.
Years and years in the barn have taken its toll.
There a two other plaques or tags as well. Might watch for them also.
I am trying to double fill this board with both old style bolt markings and newer style opening sizes.
Just need a 1027 old style and 1023, 1029, and 1723A newer style.
Good luck with your board.

That’s a neat approach, showing the two different size formats together. The missing sizes must not turn up often: I don’t think I have them either. I can check after I get back from St Louis next week.

This is probably a more appropriate topic for Beemer's 'Rollups' thread, but I just have to add...

You and a few other guys here have a much different rating scale for pouches and rollups than I do. That is in very good shape with some very minor and spotty coming apart at the seams issues on the pockets and even fewer at the edges. All the quilting is intact, including the trademark Scottish corner, there are no major holes, the leatherette has some cracking, but it's not disintegrating, and the logo is very legible. On a 1 to 10 that is a solid 7.5 in my book. I have some truly ratty pouches that are barely intact and, to be honest, I am pleased enough with those. I know there are some perfect 10 pouches out there, but not many, not for uncommon brands, and especially not for uncommon brands with uncommon tools inside.

EDIT: Those tools are shown and identified on pages 34 and 35 of the 1933 catalog, X, just in case you didn't already know it.

So I'm going off of memory here but I think these tools all had a "U" date code so my very first reaction was "43" but seconds later I realized, oh wait it must be the prior "U" which puts it at 1929, the same year as the Curtiss Aeroplane & Motor Wright Aeronautical merger. Only 4 or 5 of these are co marked Wright as others seem to be specifically made for other companies, for example Curtiss or specific spark plug types.....which makes me wonder how the roll and contents was assembled in the first place. I'll probably want to edit this after doing even a minimal amount of research but I'm laying this down for now.

No, you are spot on. The 1933 cat shows a host of them miscellaneously and identifies them for each aircraft company make (Wright, PWA, Warner-Scarab, Hispano-Suiza, etc) and engine individually. They are not shown as a set in a roll-up. Go to IA/ITCL and check it out. It will be a fun little exercise.
