Building a flat bed with a 3'beaver tail and want a swing down ramp for it, more than likely hinge it with 1" pins and want to have some heavy springs on it, to assist in lifting and lowering it. Checked on the Austin Hardware site with no luck, what I want is something with 1 1/4 to 1 1/2" ID and about 2" OD. Any body know of a source for such a thing.

I'm not sure of your design intent, but I've seen garage door springs used in tension, and in torsion, for fold-down ramps.

If you can include one type or another in your design, you will find a wide variety of sizes and capacities available.

I thought about using a garage door spring but their ID is to large for my space, want to keep the gate close to the rear od my trailer. Checked with McMaster Carr and if given the dimensions they can wind the springs for me, that is probally what I will do. Was hoping someone would know of someone that had something in stock. Thanks for the reply.

Easier and cheaper to use some fabbed brackets and junkyard hood lift struts and you can put it together yourself. We had a trailer at work that came with them, just put your foot under the ramp and a little nudge would lift it. This is the closest pic I could find.
