Sprunger 15" drill press replacement quill/bearings/chuck

I have a Sprunger 15" drill press and I am looking to restore it to its former glory. I have a few questions about it if anyone could help I would be most appreciative.

-The bearings are very wobbly, what size are the replacements and how do you access them?

-The chuck is very old and worn, so what size would this be and where could I find it?

-The spindle size and type?

-Lastly, it has the original motor, but any ideas of getting a newer motor with a variable speed controller on it vs. changing the belt every time I want to change the speed?

Any suggestions and/or information is greatly appreciated

I purchased a USA made Jacobs Chuck from MSC for my Taiwan made Drill Press.

Thank you so very much for the intel. I was able to order the bearings 6202-10...but I have tried cross checking the model number/reference number of the NB 77120a, but to no avail. Is there something that I am missing? I must admit I'm not familiar with this type of thing. Thanks again for the input...gratefully Doug A.

If you dont already have an account, go over to owwm.org and get an account and see what help they can provide. This is what they live and breath for.

Sprunger was not a well know brand back in the day, so replacement parts like a spindle probably wont be forthcoming. But common things like bearings are pretty much universal and can be sourced very easily and cheaply. Stick with brands like NTN.

Spindle has a J33 taper which is pretty much the standard so if you want to put a new chuck on it, that won't be an issue either. As for a variable speed motor, you can either try and find a 3 phase that will mount and use a VFD to power it or maybe source an old DC motor from a treadmill with some sort of rheostat to control it. Might be more trouble than its worth, but that will be up to you. You most likely will want to replace bearings in the motor as well.

I agree with aquinob a vfd is the way to go here is my drill press with vfd and 1/2 hp motor

Just picked up a Buffalo No. 15 drill press for $150 in great original shape. The guy I bought it from, bought it from a machine shop going out of business years ago. Based on catalogs from vintage machinery age is ~1950 - 1956 original paint, original chuck and key, table is impeccable looks...
