I posted this over weldingweb, but I thought it would do well here too..

Youtube vid of the thing in action at the bottom.

I am making a welding cart for the new Dynasty. I was hoping to piggyback off my MM212 but I figured leave well enough alone. This way I could put the plasma cutter up as well without it looking like the Tower of Pizza. (reference to my welding abilities ;) )

So I am using 1" tubing on the project and wanted to have a bit more strength so I would feel better about stacking my rigs on this thing.

I thought I could use my bender to do it, but it would look like ****. Same with using the oxy torch to bend them. Then it hit me... I can make a die to do this.

I found a 1" piece of scrap steel and cut a couple squares out of it.

So here's the die...

Here's one more picture with the finished product...

and a little video of the thing in action...

Looks good Robert! I made one similar to that a year or so ago by milling a groove in a piece of scrap 1" flat, adding a large chamfer and using a section of 1" square rod as the punch. I had to make 50 little brackets from 1/8" 4130 and it was in perfect shape when I was done.

Nice!

I wonder if a 20-ton press could do 3/16" thick stake pocket brackets with a similar setup?
