Hello everybody

My new wife and I own 2 2005 MINI Coopers and a 1962 Falcon station wagon. We are looking to build our dream garage. We live in a nice community and we don't know yet what is allowed. I'm hoping to have at least a 30' by 30' garage built. I'm 51 and this will be the culmination of my life's work. Plans already include a 10' ceiling and 4" concrete floor for a lift, heat, insulation, 220v power etc. Looking forward to learning a lot more from you folks so I can get it right the first time!

Welcome to GJ. '62 Falcon, Coooool! (Any Pix?) Sounds like you have a good start to your garage wish list. This is a great place to browse and get great ideas. From what I hear, if you are thinking of a lift, think about 12' ceilings. Aim for plenty of electric and lots of light.

Keep us posted on your plans and progress.

BTW, what part of the country are you?

We're in Okemos Michigan, just east of Lansing. After some thought I will probably pass on the lift. We do want heat and water, and a loft if we can go that high. Here is the Falcon:

We're finalizing the details. Garage will be 32 x 40, 12' ceiling with one 9x8 overhead and one 16x8. Pole construction with a 4" slab. Insulated, ceiling mount gas furnace, water, electric, vinyl siding, shingles to match the house.

Plans include a 2 post lift. Is a 12' ceiling enough for cars? Seems like enough to me. This is going to happen soon and we're really excited!
