Squirrel Cage Fan Retrofit

I have a squirrel cage fan from my stove that was a downdraft exhaust. I don't use it in the house and I would love to get some of the dust and smoke out of the system in the garage.

The problem is, this fan has a weird plug on it with two "ground" plugs on it that I believe is because the stove is 220. Can I just clip this plug and put on a standard plug and have it work? I'm too cheap to actually go out a buy a new fan for the filter exhaust system especially since I have this one laying around. Need you boys and girls to come up with a good solution for me!

If this was a house fan, chances are it's not 220V, it's two speed fan that runs on 110V, and the two weird ground plugs are for the two different speeds. Of the three wires, one will be the "ground" - actually a neutral - and the other two will power the fan at either low or high speed. Can't tell for sure without looking at it....

I really hate to see people messing with electrical things when they don't know what they're doing, it can get scary......do you have a friend who is an electrician, someone who can show you the right things to do?

Look for a label on the fan motor or the housing, it should tell you the voltage and so on....

There isn't a label but I'm sure it's 220 since it was for the stove which is definitely 220. There is no speed control for the fan on the stove.

Post a picture that may help identify what's up with the plug. Also there should be a tag or markings on the motor of the blower to tell what voltage it is.

Look for wiring diagram on stove it came out of. Some are three or four speed fan motors and most are 120 volt. See the diagram for hookups, some of the systems also have a capacitor for more efficiency and you have to use it too. Must have diagram from furnace/stove it came out of. Get a friend with electrical experience or got on mfgs website and see if you can find diagram.

That doesnt mean anything. Most appliances have a 220 main source from the wall to run the heating elements or larger motor and then pull 110 to smaller things like fans, control boards, or switches.

Im not a pro, this has just been my limited experience.
