Hello,
New to this forum and really enjoy the great info here. I just installed a 45,000 btu SRP tube heater. Minimum clearance to the ceiling is 3" at a 45 degree mount. Installed at 4.5", ceiling is osb. When it runs the ceiling temp at the leading edge runs at 175 degrees F which seems hot to me. The manual states the clearance to combustibles are rated at 90 F higher than room temp, meaning the temp can be 160F based at 70 F room temp. Does this seem right? Should I consider installing a heat shield to lower the ceiling temp?

Thanks for you insight.

I have a similar heater, 45k schwank...

Mine had similar specs, even @ 6" the ceiling gets hot (I can still hold my hand on it without discomfort) but everything is 5/8 type x so I'm not concerned.

If I were you I'd build a shield, even just a strip of concrete board with an airgap between the osb, use some metal furring channel. Then you could paint to match the ceiling if your ocd like me.

I would get some sheet aluminum and extend it a few inches. Pop rivet it to the shield. 175 seems hot....

I have a tube heater mounted at a 45 and ceiling only gets about 130. Im also at about 8" clearance.

Hi there,

Ended up installing a heat shield made out of .060 aluminum. Made a drastic reduction in ceiling heat. Bring on winter!
