SS Welding question

We're welding numerous pieces of 304L SS 3/8 together. We are using 308L-16 rod 1/8" to tack it, and I wanted to use the same but 5/32" to really stick it together. Turns out I can't get the 5/32" in time, but I do have 30lbs of 316L-16 3/16" that seems to be working good.

The environment is a very unfriendly place, and the 304 sheets usually last 2 to 3 yrs tops before they need replacement. I expect these welds to last 2-3 yrs at around 1200F in a high vibration, high abrasion environment.

Does any of you see any reason why the 316 rods won't work?

It will work fine. Always weld with a higher grade rod then the base metal you are welding. A 2-3 year life span is completely expected if prepped and welded properly.
