I have a few of the yellow Akro bins, and they stack nicely.
Reaching into the stacked bins to retrieve something is another matter.

You seem to be making the assumption that hardware is only "nuts and bolts". When doing home remodel projects, I take the plastic containers I think I might need from the shop the 100 feet into the house with me. There will be several bins of building hardware in the house until the job is complete.
Definition: "Stupid" is any person who thinks that they have the answer to it all.
Well this is a fabrication business and I'm not Bob Vila. Once again I didn't ask if how I intended to use the bins would suit everyone elses needs.
Yes!

I bought the Stanley Stackable bins from Lowes. They are 6.5 x 4 x 3, sold in a pack of 8 with wall hangers for $6. http://www.lowes.com/pd_101946-82673-101946_4294857690__?productId=3076613&Ntt=bins&pl=1¤tURL=%2Fpl_Garage%2BOrganization_4294857690__s%3FNtt%3Dbins&facetInfo=
They are interchangeable. That's a good deal on those bins! I've currently got maybe 30 Akron bins and wall plate but I need a bunch more. Do you know would these interchange with the current Akron mounts or would I need to plan on keeping the two separated?
They are interchangeable.
I just went up there yester day and they didn't have those... I'll have to see if they were just out.
