I have a few of the yellow Akro bins, and they stack nicely.

Well this is a fabrication business and I'm not Bob Vila. Once again I didn't ask if how I intended to use the bins would suit everyone elses needs. I simply asked if the cheap ones were on par with the name brand ones. Which based on the responses no one knows and I'll just have to figure it out on my own. Thats fine... just figured someone would take the time to read and respond to the actual question... I even put in bold number 7 lettering at the top of the page. It's pretty clear that I am not interested in hearing about use... just about quality of the differant products. Now there was some helpfull information posted... but I think that some of the responses were posted because of brand recognition rather than actual first hand experiance with both. CSP is really the only one who got it and posted real usful information.
And for me it's not always nuts and bolts... it's also dzus tabs, heat srink **** connectors, rivets, and self tapping screws. But like I said I can judge what I need very easly... no need to carry a bin around.

I've purchased both the grey bins shown above and the blue/red combo from Harbor Freight, and I've also purchased an assortment of Quantum bins from Northern Tool.
There is no comparison. The Quantum bins don't flex, hold up under impact, cantilever off the back when full of bolts, and don't get weaker in the winter.
I've had nothing but problems with the Harbor Freight bins. They don't stack well, and tend to slide off each other. They break, frequently. The mounting tabs on the back are flexible, so they're either too loose or too tight to hang on the wall.
If that isn't enough to sway you, the Quantum bins I have are marked "Made in America."

Just because you started this thread doesn't mean that you're the only one reading it for opinions.
People also offer up other ideas because they may have considered something you may have never thought about. It sure can't hurt.

That's a good deal on those bins! I've currently got maybe 30 Akron bins and wall plate but I need a bunch more. Do you know would these interchange with the current Akron mounts or would I need to plan on keeping the two separated?

I find myself doing the exact same thing, just grab the whole bin & go. Sure beats being 1 or 2 screws short or having to sort out the extras that you put in your pocket.

Funny you mention that.....I live in between 2 Lowe's stores, one has these and the other does not. You may want to call another Lowe's store if you have one close.
