Stackable Recycle Bins

So I imagine that some of you may have already tackled this problem and can offer some guidance.

We recently moved back to the country after living in a village (with awesome trash service) for about a decade. The township does offer a recycling program but recyclables are not accepted commingled and must be sorted. They only collect #1 and #2 plastics so I figure that if we want to sort it at home we are looking at the following bins:

- #1 plastic
- #2 plastic
- paper
- glass
- cardboard (cereal packaging etc.)
- metal (steel and aluminum does need to be sorted at the facility though)

Ideally I would like to find a solution that will hold the recyclables for our family (of 5) that wouldn't need to be dumped each week and would be presentable and not take up a **** load of storage space in my garage. I'm thinking stackable bins in 2 towers of 3.

Any suggestions on bins to purchase (that are durable enough for the job and readily available), where to purchase them from and any tips would be appreciated.

My wife got some from IKEA that stack. They work pretty good. they are about 24" high each. We have to seperate parpe, plastic, aluminum.

You should watch the people who pick up the recycle. Every one I have watched, mixes it all in the truck anyways. I no longer separate mine.

I have a pair of 55 gal drums stacked with a couple of 4x4 in between them. One for #1 plastics and the other is for #2s.

I have a 5 gals bucket for the tin/steel for the scrap yard.

A couple of plastic totes for glass, I sort there or they do, another for cardboard and one last one for the plastic grocery bags. The recycling center doesn't take them but the store does have two barrels out front for them.

Those stackable bins **** if you get a decent amount of wind. They're better when not stacked (if you're talking trash day).

Your best bet in the house might just be milk crates, I don't mean "steal them" I mean buy them from someone. I don't know who. The trash pickup company itself probably has them. Even then they might not pick up certain colored plastic in pete (1) and ptbe(?) (2) such as vitamin bottles. Our guys used to leave them in the bins.

I'm too cheap to pay the extra for it to be picked up. For the 372 bucks a year I'll take it to the drop off site myself. We have to either sort it at home or sort it into the bins at the drop site.
