Satin finish ? Sure. HERE is a proper satin finish.

Stahlwille has not satin, they have some unic finish I never have seen on another tool! I like Facoms finish better on 440 than stahlwille, if we talking ****[emoji1]. But durability facom is on second place, pretty easy to do a scratch( on 467 series anyway) and stahlwille is not! On the other side, a wrench from Eduard Wille has a secret station where they do special grindmarks for us crazy european[emoji12]

I don't think a mirror finish is a prerequisite for a stahlwille USA division.

Plenty of USA brands like Williams, Wright, Armstrong, Craftsman, and Gray (Canada) do the satin finish thing.

Does Snap On offer satin finishes? I don't think I've seen satin finishes on Snap on wrenches, ratchets, or sockets.

Does snap on offer satin? Yes, it's just called Williams. Chrome targets the less abusive automotive user while satin targets the industrial setting. Hence different brand names.

I agree. They are really interesting. All the unique design features exist not just for show, but come with a purpose. That's why I'm disappointed they ate so short otherwise I'd own a set asap.

I hear everyday how expensive stahlwille is! Yes they are insanely expensive, but try to compare the price to snappy and suddenly stahlwille is cheap Openbox 14 long wrench set from 8-19mm for 1218 sek or 145 usd! 10-19mm Snapon Oexm100B cost 330 usd!(without flankdrive plus open end). I compared the standard lenght(nearly similar to 14 series)from SO without flankdrive plus so its should be a fair comparision! My 17 pc 6-22mm series 14 cost 2040sek or 243usd! Yes i know SO has great warranty, but for med warranty doesnt matter! How many needs the warranty if the tools are used like it should be and not like a hammer?

Which brand are we talking about? Hazet,gedore or stahlwille? Ratcheting wrenches are pretty pricey here to, stahlwille open ratch 17 cost near 300 usd for a 12 pc set 8-19mm! Hazet's ratch.wrench set are more in snappy division! Same with gedore 7ur

Shop in Germany, it's much cheaper ! Price includes 19% German sales tax which would be deducted for sales outside of the EU.

Do you mean me? Yes I'd still consider stahlwille 14A. The A being key. Stahlwille 14A is the discontinued SAE version.

ps: here some pics from the real (tool) life where finish/ grind marks etc. doesn´t matter much. The "finish" and grind marks are even sometimes added by the employees as well as impact marks, engravings, paint and welds. The wrenches are used as wrenches, hammer, chisel, pry bar.....

Finally I agree and you have right, but yes I use sometimes a wrench like a hammer, prybar etc and I feel very stupid But what should a man do to get the job done in time if other tool doesnt is an option? Ofcourse I beat the hell out of the wrench if I must...hate it thou!

Its a different reality than the world of heated and airconditions automotive shops where everyone has his own bay and his toolbox sitting with in arms reach.

I regularly hit combo wrenches and allen wrenches with a hammer to break fasteners loose. I also put deep sockets on allen wrenches and use socket extensions as long handles.

Oh, and the ever classic wrench on the end of another wrench for added leverage.

P.s. Yes, that does marr the finish on the wrenches.

Yes, Stahlwille are Satin not polished, yes they are designed to be used, but that mark is damage or careless preparation during manufacture!

I once received some Stahlwille sockets that had been damaged by the distributer. My retailer contacted Stahlwille direct and they were quite shocked at how their products had obviously been thrown around by firm. They assured me they hadn't left the factory like that and changed them straight away!

Alternatives - I don't normally think Gedore are in the same league as Stahlwille, but their No.7 combination wrenches are an exception, especially the long ones! Hazet are also faultless!

Guys who like the older Facom tools (and why not, good stuff) - I believe a lot of this was made in Italy by USAG. Now that Facom are switching more and more products for Taiwanese 'equivalents' I see that USAG are selling theirs direct. I have yet to see what the quality is like, but from what I can see these are very similar to the old Facom lines, and the prices are really reasonable!

Sadly so! It's not every product, and in most cases the old one is still available, but you have to be careful. Quite often it's the new/ Taiwanese item that gets pushed or advertised or put on 'special'.

In all fairness, some of the stuff is among the best of the Taiwanese that I've seen (most 440 wrenches are Taiwanese, and they all seem to be nice) but some of it isn't (the new/Taiwanese ratchet's spring to mind)

Thankfully, it's far from everything that's being made in China. Most European tool firms seem to be very careful about their outsourcing and either don't do it at all, or don't do it for their 'core' tools. Increasingly, the same applies to Japanese firms.

It's still a free world though, and as some firms get gobbled up and trashed, others come along to fill the gap!

So you guys have slowly coaxed me towards your side. I don't mind the grind marks as the tool still functions fine, just for $20 a wrench it was disgusting. Thanks to the links many of you have provided, I have found a 15pcs stahlwille14 set for $115 shipped. I don't even need another metric set, but for that price, why not. Its almost as cheap as Taiwanese Gearwrench. At under $8 a wrench, I can live with grind marks.

I also ordered the hazet 600na SAE wrenches that I do need. They really are the only wrenches that meet my needs and aren't discontinued. At $175 for 13pcs I'm probably going to be a lot more critical of them over stahlwille. However, that's still better than the $250 I thought I'd have to pay, so again thanks guys.

Dave455, I got my two loose stahlwille wrenches on eBay, so I'm not even sure who to send them back to. Not really worth the effort. However, if the stahlwille14 set I just ordered new from Germany comes in looking like ****, I will keep that in mind.

You also mentioned alternatives, unfortunately for SAE all that's left is Gedore 1b/7, hazet 600na, and elora 205. Hazet is the longest, so that's what I bought despite being 75% more expensive than the other two. I sure hope those hazet are as nice as you say.
