Looking to buy a spanner set and want them to last a life time or at least 15-20 years. I was wondering if anyone has had experience with these spanners.

I have one Stahwille spanner, it's better than every other brand I own.
I dont think you can compare the quality of a stahlwille with gearwrench and sidchrome! Snap on,hazet,facom,gedore and old bahco pu is maybe closer to a open box 13 or 14!

You can get Stahlwille spanners from Masters hardware. Price might be high, but you can at least check them out.

I have quite a few! They are very very good! The finish is satin chrome, not quite as bling as Snap On, but perhaps even more durable!
The only thing to bear in mind is that the 'regular' combination wrench is equivalent to Snap On's 'short', so I'd probably buy the long version!
I tend to have inch size wrenches by Snap On and metric by Stahlwille. I would say they are of comparable quality!

So the standard stahlwille are short
depends....
Stahlwille open box 14 is "normal" length, open box 13 is shorter....for european standards..... the wrenches from US companies seem to be longer than the EU wrenches...

Here in Australia you can usually buy the Stahlwille ones much cheaper than Snap- On.So I'll go that way when my old Aussie made Sidchromes finally pack it in..after 30 years they are still going strong and believe me have they had some work.

Depends what you consider 'standard'!
Stahlwille offer 2 types of combination wrench. No. 13 are shorter. No. 14 are longer!
If you don't specify which you want, you will probably get the No. 13.
Hazet also offer 2 length's, but if you don't specify you tend to get the longer No. 600N. (Very nice, by the way!)
Snap On's 'standard' length is comparable to Stahlwille's 'long' No. 14. They also offer 'short' 'midget' and 'long' to cover all needs!
Mac's 'standard' length is comparable to Stahlwille's 'short' No. 13. They also offer 'short' 'long' and 'extra long'!

In strength (push till it breaks) the Stahlwille 13s don't hold up very well. I don't remember the test, but it's been referenced around here many times.
That said, I have a set. They compliment my Snap-Ons quite well. They're shorter and thinner than the SO wrenches, and can go places the SO wrench can't. I love em, and would highly recommend them, unless you're planning on pushing them past their limit (that test isn't exactly indicative of real world use...).

Thats weird...why does everybody in my city use and recommend stahlwille? I talking of excevator,trucks wrenching and very big machines(spelling)! The only brand that holds up here is stahlwille,hazet and gedore when abusing and using like a hammer and over torgue the tools! I have seen openbox 13 and 14 wrenches that is used on very very big CAT for like 20 years and holds up and look nicer than a shiny chrome wrench looks after 2 days of work! So i really want to see the test, iam curios

I think I remember reading that!
If I recall correctly the testers didn't compare 'like with like'! They compared the Stahlwille No.13 with the Hazet No.600N and suchlike! Of course the longer wrenches are also slightly thicker, so they took a greater load!
I've got quite a few Stahlwille wrenches, including a couple I regularly use for machine setting, and they all seem to have lasted well! No complaints!
I reckon if you get a reasonable quality tool ( not necessarily the best, just reasonable), use it correctly and don't abuse it, it will generally last well! But even the best wrench, if used for shoeing your horse, will show wear!
Like jmm, I've got both Snap On and Stahlwille (and some older British made). I tend to have Stahlwille in metric and Snap On in inch sizes so I can tell them apart quickly!

Yes, pretty much as I remembered!
The Stahlwille lost out to the bigger Hazet (thicker overall) which is pretty much as you would expect! I'm sure that if they had compared the bigger Stahlwille No. 14 the results would have been comparable!
Even the very different Snap On took exactly the same load at the ring end, only losing out at the open end with it's smaller profile!
Mind you, I can't really really fault the conclusion that the Hazet No. 600N Is a very fine wrench! It is! I only have a few of these and they are superb! Someone else on here once pointed out that they are almost identical in size to the old 1970's vintage Britool RBM wrenches! What a compliment!

I don't mean to infer that they're not good tools. They're awesome! I definitely wouldn't own a set if they weren't.
I was just pointing out a specific test that shows them to be relatively weak under very unusual and improbable circumstances.

Just bought the box 13 series they feel good even though a little short
The Stahlwille Open-Box 13 series are on the short side, but they fall within the range of standard length. They aren't midget wrenches.
If you compare a few types of 14mm wrenches:
Hazet 603 series: 170mm
Facom 440: 180mm
Stahlwille 13 Open-Box: 165mm
Stahlwille 14 Open-Box Long: 210mm
Sometimes long wrenches can be a disadvantage in tight spots. So the 13s are a great choice. I don't own any 13s but I do have a set of 14s.
The Stahlwille 14 Open-Box Long series are one of my favorite wrenches. I can recommend them heartily. They are like nothing else. Really excellent and outstanding in so many ways. They feel great. The only trouble is, they aren't available in all sizes. They skip a bunch after 22

Stahlwille wrenches are very, very nice, but if you want the real fetish **** ….get the Facom 440 or also the Heyco Maxline.
All of them are high level tools…the best … you've got them all.
Sidchrome 440 same as Facom 440. Same parent company. Stanley.
Alfajuj - Can you talk more about the features they have that you believe make Open-Box 14s excellent? Just curious what you think the key features are.

The Sidchrome 440 wrenches are not the same as the Facom 440 wrenches. The wrenches may be made in the same facility but the design is different, thugh there are some similarities such as the design of the ring end. The Facom 440 wrenches are the same as the newer USAG 285 wrenches. The Sidchrome 440 wrenches do appear to be the same as the Mac "Precision Torque" combination wrenches though since Stanley Tools also owns Mac.
