I think this Rollmaster is much cooler (not just because of rarity) than the Hazet Assistant! I want one too!!!

Re: stahlwille rollmaster in use

I am posting a cropped section of a photo posted elsewhere on GJ to show my Rollmaster in use. The Rollmaster is best, not so much for tool storage, but as a caddy alongside work being done, to hold tools and parts in use. The bins inside are a great place to put and organize parts as they come off the car. Mine is not in the original colors. Regards,

Andres

Straeos & Stahlwille Rollmaster

Yes, a Stratos, almost unknown in the U.S.

The colors I used on the Rollmaster allow it to blend in in the garage and with the Stratos. I truly find it very handy.

It was lying under the tree in my neigbors' yard. I took it home and it sat in my workshop for another seven odd years.

Andres – could you explain how the shelves rotate on the vertical shaft? Is it simply a bearing pressed onto the shaft and seated in the trays? I’m just curious how much weight each tray could support.

Great resto by the way!

Thanks!

Hi, After seeing the pictures of Anders' and others' beautiful and nostalgic Rollmasters on the GJ, I thought I should get one as well. Unfortunately, they are not easy to come by. After a long search, I was able to chase one down in Belgium (I'm in the Netherlands). The quoted shipping cost was very high, so I had to go and pick it up. Funnily enough, soon after I got mine, someone in the Netherlands put up a bunch of them on the Dutch equivalent of the Craigslist.

It's in relatively good shape. It's written "Reserve 2" under the rubber mat on the top. May be it's used less than average. It still needs a decent restoration including new wheels.

My garage is decorated modern with white walls, white cabinets and light grey floor. So, the original color does not really fit well with the rest of he garage and I plan to repaint it to a different color. Not sure whether I should I do it myself (I'm not very good at painting) or take it to a auto paint shop? Any tips and recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks guys. I'll follow your advise and leave it original for now. I'll only replace the wheels and put some new rubber or foam linings in the compartments.

That's an ubercool picture. Thanks for sharing it. Anymore?
I've been searching for vintage pictures of the Rollmaster in action (motorsport or Porsche factory, etc.) but can't find any!

Very nice. Love the 956 workshop. Is there a Rollmaster hidden somewhere that I'm missing to see? :eyecrazy:

The RollMaster is behind the middle Porsche. It's painted a dark red. It's just left of the guy wearing the dark red overalls.

Good eyes. I suspected it but I wasn't sure because of the non-standard color. It must be the team mechanics' color as they seem to wear the same color overalls.

While we're on the Rollmaster, here are some pictures of my Rollmaster restoration. I've eventually decided to color code it with my garage which is completely in white and gray despite good advice I've received here to keep it as is. Still tried to keep the vintage look though.

I've had it painted at a car paint shop (not trusting myself). Replaced the shot wheels that were marking the floor with new gray non-marking ones (the big ones were not easy to find). I also replaced the worn out top rubber mat and used the left over rubber (from the meter piece I had buy) for the drawers. Finally, I couldn't help adding the b&w Porsche emblem as the last (cheesy?) touch. Here is the result.

The choice for the rubber mat is not my cup of tea, but otherwise an excellent makeover!

I'm not thrilled by it either but could not find anything better available where I'm located. Do you have any recommendations?

The rubber mat just needs a few German made tools scattered over it.

I'm unsure of your location but, I've had decent luck looking in the flooring section of home improvement centers, by the area mats and runners. You could also tailor a yoga mat, anti fatigue mat, truck bed mat, etc.

Great job on a very unique tool storage platform!!:bowdown:

Glad you've liked it. I think what I've bought is not worse than those options. May be didn't come out well in the pictures. Here is a link to it. http://rubbermatten24.nl/rubber-op-rol-diamant-3mm.html

I will post a picture with some German tools on it. Good idea.
