There is a Hazet thread and Tools from the old world, but why not start one for the Stahlwille?

Currently waiting to receive 415QR N, 435QR N, 512QR N ratchets set.

Is there a reason why Stahlwille doesn't have a following like Hazet brand?

The Hazet following seems to derive from the fact they supplied VW with factory tool kits at some point, and the VW nuts will latch onto anything associated w/ VW.

Here's my only Stahlwille pic, it's a comparison vs a Hazet deep offset of the same size (Hazet on the left, Stahlwille on the right).

My most used, and favorite wrenches, double box Corona.

These wrenches have been around for long time without much changes. I guess close to 50 years!? I see them around in old shops and garages, still kicking after decades of service.

What's your personal preference between the two brands? Currently trying to decide on sockets to go with my recently ordered ratchets.

The Hazet has a more consistent finish, the Stahlwille seems beefier but might limit clearance a little more than the Hazet on that deep offset.

Functionally, I haven't noticed the difference.

Hazet offers a lot more tools, specialty tools, even tool boxes, they are a bigger company and are like the German's snap on and stallwille is more like Armstrong or proto is to us. Forgive me for saying that I love both and I think all German and euro brands are equally top notch in quality. Some hazet stuff cost more than snap on stuff specially old stuff and some kits.

Stahlwille certainly has a following. I love them!

Hazet is a little more expensive across the board. Finish is a bit finer in accordance with price.

Hazet as mentioned also has a larger assortment.

In terms of function and strength there is no major difference between hazet and stahlwille.

They are both great brands and top of the European lineup.

I have a lot of stahlwille wrenches. All started With a set of open box 13 I got after getting advice in the tools from the old world thread.

I have the double deep boxes and several loose filler for both.

On impulse I bought the QR 1/4 ratchet (I really don't need anymore 1/4) and it's pretty darn good. Up there with snap on and my facom roundheads in terms of nice to use. Can't really comment on durability. As a home user and a non tool abuser a won't ever get to the point of risking breakage.

I have a few Stahlwille tools that I have picked up through Amazon. I have the 452 3/8" locking flex head ratchet, which quickly became my go to ratchet. It's an odd looking thing, but I really like it. It's comfortable in the hand and has very little back drag. If you are in the market for a locking flex head, you should definitely give this one a try.

Odd looking thing is an understatement. I'd go as far as ridiculous looking. How exactly does that lock release button work? Obviously you push it and it releases, but is there a detent ball under the head or is it spring loaded? How does the head lock in place? Also, is that handle comfortable? It looks really small as if only half of my hand would fit around it comfortably.

Haha, when I stumbled I across this thread, I thought--perfect timing. I'm trying to procure several Stahlwille tools, particularly wrenches.

I've ordered a few Stahlwille tools to compare the quality to other tool brands. The prices are surprisingly affordable (compared to today's market prices) if you're buying them from the right sources. I've been eyeing the offset wrenches from Amazon.de for many weeks now, but have been debating the need for them. They're more useful in suspension-related work on cars.

I have yet to experience Hazet's hand tools. Their toolboxes are made elsewhere in Europe; might as well throw Beta and Gedore tools in the mix.

Why do some buy this type of open ended wrenches?

41HqLU3mpPL.jpg

I've noticed that the length of each wrench is shorter--do some own this type of wrenches simply to reduce the number of wrenches they have in possession? Convenience?

There's seems to be a compromise to leverage

I'd rather be having a set of angle open wrenches--each wrench being its own size

:dunno:

Gedore is in the same league... beta a little lower than the other three...

Beta has far more Taiwan in the lineup and just a bit less quality. Beta is more facom.

Nothing against beta or facom. Both are great brands just not so much made in Europe. Like facom some of the line still is made in Europe and some of the Taiwan stuff is top notch but not Europe.

There are two detent balls - one on each side of the hinge that lock it in place. The handle is larger than it looks and is about the same width as a Snap On F80 handle. I have found it to be comfortable to use. It seems very strong - I have really torqued on it a few times so far and it doesn't flex.

I agree. I also really wish people didn't include all the pictures when they quote someone. Nothing like seeing the same 10 pictures posted 3 different times on one page...

Agreed that was poor form on my behalf and being lazy when posting via phone. Fixed and apologies. Back to awesome German tools!

I've got a set of Stahlwille 14 series combo wrenches also. They're among my favourite tools.
It's their 'long pattern' series, which is about the same length as Snap-On standard series.
They're quite light weight and comfortable to hold, but still very strong.
I bought mine from Jens Putzier (GJ member).
He's in Germany and sells Stahlwille and Hazet. He does a lot of business with US customers.

Garant combo made by Stahlwille.

But in cotrast to Stahlwille all Garant wrenches are marked with 'Made in Germany'

I like Hazet best because of the knurling.

Totally agree - Hazet knurling is the best in the business - all the others are purely cosmetic - except for maybe Koken, Gedore - Hazet's knurling really works and is placed so it makes it easy to turn the socket by hand when still on the ratchet.

Ha ! I was born in wuppertal. It took a long time for me to be able to buy hazet or stahlwillie tools. I just started buying whatever worked and was available. Unfortunately this was towards the end of my career.

Very impressive, in California we had some Stahlwille dealers, few independent, a few were also MAC dealers. I don't see a lot of Stahlwille here in Texas, like to get a few of there high offset box end wrenches.
