Staining a fence?

I have about 200 feet of fence I need stained. I will hire a labor by the hour but should I have him roll it on or brush it on? The fence is over 10 years old and I power wash it very good over a month ago. I don't want it sprayed. So if I pay a labor $10 an hour (It would be hard to screw up staining a fence because I'll be out there every 20 minutes) for this task what would be the difference between rolling and brushing?

My fall project is staining several hundred feet of fence. I'd already started looking at an airless sprayer. Don't know why I didn't think of the pump up sprayer. That's what I'll be doing. I just stained a bunch of posts for grape arbors and used small roller and brush. Looks like I'll be doing a combination of the sprayer, roller and brush.

I'd use a pump sprayer to apply the stain and a 2-3" brush (small enough to get between the boards) to even it out.
How is you, who apparently have never stained, watching someone going to prevent someone from screwing it up?

I just power washed a 6yr old fence, and had to used a brush for the whole thing. The sprayer used tons of stain and was spotty. The fence really soaked in the stain and was uneven. Used a brush and came out good. I used the new Thompson's water seal transparent stain.

That pump sprayer will put stain on quickly and get into the tight places saving you time....which is money. Once the stain is applied you could still use a roller to even it out!

Rent and electric sprayer from Home Depot. Bug sprayer will take forever. Time is money.

Anyone can tell if a fence it being stain right or not. Are there drips, spots after 15 minutes of drying, places missed, and the list goes on. You don't have to be an interior decorator to know if the place looks nice or not. It all comes down to common since and what you like. Even if it is screwed up, as long as I like it, isn't that what counts?
