We're staining the deck and aren;t sure how to get the stain in between the boards. They are about 1/4" apart and a brush won't fit. Any thoughts?
Thanks

We just did ours a couple weeks ago.....a Wagner power sprayer worked very well. We did two coats of stain - the first coat was from one direction and the second we worked from the opposite direction so both edges of the boards got covered. The sprayer was about $65.00 but well worth it.

What timing... my son finished the patio's railing and steps and his next task will be tackling the fence line.... a new tool to purchase. :D

You should be able to brush between the cracks with a medium sized brush. However you apply the stain, roller, spray etc.. you should ultimately only do small sections at a time and then back brush. Have a smaller container of stain and brushavailable to add to in between the cracks and back brush. You can also spray the underneath if access is available.

Also don't stain in direct sunlight as it won't have the full ability to penetrate.

i've been thinking on buying one of those Wagner setups. Does it make much overspray? I suppose I'd just use a piece of cardboard as I went to protect the siding but was just wondering what kind of mess I'd be getting myself into.

We didn't take any chances and just wrapped the two sides of the house that the deck is on with plastic. The oversray wasn't really a problem doing the decking however to avoid having to do all the spindles by hand we used the sprayer for them also.....a fair amount of overspray but that's to be expected.

Just stained my deck yesterday. Wouldn't be able to live with out my Wagner Power Sprayer. I just use masking tape and newspaper on the siding and window frames no problem.

I bought a Wagner deckmate, and absolutely love it. fill the container with the stain, and mop it with the applicator. It has a built in pad that stains the inside edges between the boards, and with the exception of "cutting in" the area next to the house, you can do the whole job standing up, and not on your knees. It goes on nice and even. You also don't have to worry about any overspray, and the clean up is pretty easy. They only cost around 20 - 30 bucks and is well worth the investment!
