Stainless exhaust - purge vs solar flux?

I am currently fabricating a custom set of headers for my car. I have been thinking of duplicating my mild steel mockup in stainless. I have read about this paste called "Solar Flux" that one can paint on the inside of the tube prior to welding. Apparently this creates a good purge inside the tube that will pass X-ray tests (according to the manufacturer).

Any experience with this stuff? I also read of a novel idea of using masking tape on the inside, which apparently shields the weld (and burns off) as a poor mans purge. :dunno:

Here is the site for the "Solar Flux": www.solarflux.com

I would think that by the time you buy it you would not use that much argon in purging. Argon purge is ALL we ever do . It is the acceptable practice in the industry.
If you try it let us know how it worked.

Have done the solar flux and will continue on certain pcs.,only because...for whatever reason?...it can't be plugged/purged.It works, just ok.

We have a bunch of taper'd steel plugs or bungs turned that get used for purging, works good and is pretty fast.I reckon you could even make them out of wood?
