Im in need of a few M10x1.50x50mm flat socket heads. The only place that doesnt sell these in bulk is Lawson. I only need 3, They havea 5 pack of stainless steel, or a 25 pack of black oxide. Since I need 3, it doesnt make much sense to buy all 25. These will need to go into aluminum, if I just use anti-sieze on them, will they be ok? or will I run into problems?

Thanks

Jim

Jim-
The s/s is your best choice for aluminum anyway-no galvanic corrosion-
What alloy of s/s are they-if 18-8,they will gall very easy-316 is about the best. With any s/s hardware, always use neverseize-all s/s will gall and jam.

McMaster carr has these:

91294A337
Metric Flat Head Socket Cap Screw Class 10.9 Stl, M10 Sz, 50mm Length, 1.50mm Pitch
In stock at $7.00 per Pack
This product is sold in Packs of 10

I doubt corrosion will be much of an issue, some but not much. On the equipment I work on, when corrosion does occur its on the taper of the head not the threads. Black oxide and cad plated bolts into aluminum parts. When the bolts are in locations that will be tightened/loosened extensively during use they have helicoil inserts. Other than that, we don't use anything much more than a thin film of oil to keep some of the heads from binding in the aluminum.

My first post and have been lurking for a while.

My local ACE has a huge selection of hardware including SS you may want to check them out. Not sure of the grade though.

Best,

Jordan

Jordan had a great idea with ACE... there is an ACE hardware near my in-laws taht has a rediculous amount of fasteners, esp stainless (FIL uses them on the Amphicars).

If you don't find what you're looking for, you might try these guys:

I think I've posted about them here before, but their inventory is unbelievable. And they might be able to get you a better price, too.

Well There isnt an ace anywhere near here (although I agree, some of them are awesome!) so I went to the newly opened lowes, and wound up with regular hex bolts. Heres why...

I had to mount my upper seat struts to the two outer rear bearing carriers on the kart. The cassettes themselves are threaded, which takes the place of a typical nut. Of course, I needed longer ones, In order to mount the struts. I realized, that I would have clearance issues with the sprocket carrier If I used the flat socket head when i went to mount these, so I needed to go with a hex bolt. I was going to have another clearance issue with the speed sensor and bracket on the other side. Grrrr I hate this kind of work.

Thank for the input guys
