Stainless steel electrical tools?

A Greenlee rep showed me these and I had to have them. The idea of strippers that wouldn't rust was too tantalizing. COO is Taiwan which is kinda lame. Are there any other stainless steel hand tools like crimpers or cutters that are worth looking at out there? I don't know how well any flavor of stainless steel could hold up on cutters. Maybe a sintered alloy? I have my doubts. Stainless steel tools. Anybody have any or any thoughts on them? I do like the idea of crimpers.

Stainless steel's ONLY redeeming value as a tool material is corrosion resistance. It's soft, and not very strong, and doesn't take a great cutting edge, and is not at all resistant to galling.

Might be OK for strippers.. I wouldn't want stainless cutters/sockets/wrenches/hammers/pliers/etc

Lots of knife blades are made of 440C as well as a multitude of other versions of stainless steel. If it works for blades, it should do fine as a material for wire strippers.

From: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_blade_materials#Stainless_steel

... 440 series has three types, 440A, 440B and 440C. 440A is a relatively a low cost, highly corrosion resistant stainless steel. In China, Ahonest ChangJiang Stainless steel developed 440A modified 7Cr17MoV, by adding more element vanadium.[31] 440B is almost identical to 440A, but has a higher carbon content range compared to 440A[31] 440C is considered a high-end stainless steel. It is very resistant to corrosion and is one of the most common stainless alloys used for knife making.[31] The once ubiquitous American Buck Model 110 Folding Hunter was made of 440C before 1981. 440C has highest carbon content in 440 group.[31] Böhler n695 is equivalent to 440C...

They don't take an edge like carbon steel but almost the entire kitchen knife market switched to SS many years ago. The good ones hold an edge pretty well but they are just cutting food. You find stainless tools in marine supply stores. The ocean salt makes quick work of regular tool steel.

They'll probably work fine for strippers. Thank goodness they didn't attempt to do double duty and add in machine screw cutters, that'd been the kiss of death. :p

Kitchen knives and wire cutters are not comparable applications for stainless steels of any kind.

There are super-high-performance 'stainless' steels out there. An overwhelming majority of them were developed either specifically for or with an eye toward cutlery applications. Steels like S30V, CPM154, ZDP-189, on and on and on.

I actually just bought a knife with a CPM154 blade, and it's awesome. But it would be a terrible material for pliers.

******** greenlee and their China handtools.. I almost jumped on a set of their nut drivers at the wholesalers, but put it back when I saw COO China and they were selling them for about the same cost as US made Kleins.

Just buy the Klein Kurves that these are knockoffs of. I got a pair of Kurves and a couple pairs of the Klien straight handle ones and they are excellent.

I've looked at some of the Greenlee electrical stuff and really didn't think much of them, however they do make some nice US made cutting tools, installation bits etc. I have several of their auger bits and they are top notch.

Yes their KO punches and augers are the standards, but their hand tools, like their screwdrivers etc, are just knockoffs of USA stuff.
