Was in Sears and saw their stainless 16 drawer, 41 inch chest and cabinet, price $1050. No COO on it but all the stainless ones I've seen are Chinese. They also seem to be better made than the regular ones. Anybody have a stainless box(not necessarily Craftsman) and if so how has it held up?

I have a CSPS box from Costco. It is 8 years old or so. Works just fine. It was made in Taiwan.

I have a Hammerhead from when they were first sold at Costco, looks as good as the day I bought it home about 10 years ago. Also have a SS Torin from Pepboys, ditto on that too :)

Any tool box will pretty much last the rest of your life, unless you are at the beach, ss is a waist of money and stainless steel.

I got mine from Costco (CSPS brand too) as well, I've had it about 6 or 7 years now and it's extremely well made, and like the judge says, heavy as hell......bottom box weighs 350lb and the top 300......empty!

I really like the smooth drawer slides too, best box I've ever owned and I'll probably not have another.

I also still have my first Snap On top box that I bought in the 60's, it's travelled all over the country with me, and I'll keep it forever too.

Thanks for comments. At my age it wouldn't take much of a box to outlase me, lol.

I bought the 41" Craftsman 16 drawer stainless chest and cabinet that the OP is refering to about a year ago for my home garage to go along side my still like new, but overflowing late 1980's Craftsman 26" top and bottom combo. The new 41" is China made, but so far I'm extremely happy with it and I've had zero neg issues. The ball bearing drawer slides work flawlessly. The clear coated stainless looks great, doesn't show fingerprints like the bare stainless boxes, and still looks new so far. I just hope that the clear coat doesn't check or crack with age, but only time will tell. Though I like the looks of the stainless, I mainly purchased this combo for the drawer configuration, especially the five full width drawers on the top box. I'm not sure I would recommend this set for professional use as the clear coat can scratch easily, and looks like hell on scratched store display models I've seen, but I think it's a great for home use and someone like myself who takes care of his stuff.

I have the steel guide from SAMs as well. I've had it for about 8 years and I also wish I would have bought 2 or 3. I think I paid between 600 and 700 for the top and bottom box combined. I worked for sears part time at the time and for the price and quality I had to buy it. Sears didn't have anything that could come close to it without spending a lot more.

I feel the same way about stoves, refrig, washer/dryers, etc. when they fail most end up buying new. Cabinets go to wast... At least the tool box should never really fail.

Same here. No problems. Clear coat is easily scratched. However for a home owner this is an excellent set and very well layed out.

I wish they would put some of that stainless steel where it could be of benifit, like in mower decks, engine oil pans and valve covers... I would pay for this for sure.

I recently purchased a well used Hammerhead SS tool box. It was used on a shop truck and is well used and it needs a couple drawer slides. Anyone know where a king slide drawer slide 16 inch can be purchased?
