The top includes a lot of heavy MDF, which makes it a lot stronger than just some stainless sheet...

What's funny is, the company that makes the tops for snap on charges SO $175. My friend is a delivery driver for them.

Stainless elevator doors make cool tops if you can find one that's been replaced from a older building.

Saw a guy who took a sheet of 3/8 thick flat aluminum, cut it with a worm drive circular saw with a metal cutting blade and put that on top of his KRL. He said when it got dirty, he'd wipe it down, hit with some 1000 grit sand paper and it cleaned right up. It really looked nice and unique and should be a ton cheaper then a SS top.

Saw a teal KRL box on CL that had a very cool top also. Black and white checker board. Probably a sheet of 3/4 plywood cut to size and vinyl stick on black and white tiles. Not sure what was used as a boarder but I would use aluminum angle about 3/4" wide.

have you priced 1/4 thick aluminum sheet lately? Not as cheap as you think

Actually no I haven't but I would assume it would be cheaper then a SS top but I may be way off. I personally would try scrap yards and or truck body builders and have actually been keeping an eye out at auctions. Just haven't come across any yet.

I did try googling to get a price and didn't have much luck.

Figured it wouldn't be cheap, but much less then SO's SS top and it would be unique.

Any idea of what it would cost for a sheet 54" x 29"?

Jaw did hit floor, eyes and shorts are ok:lol_hitti

Thanks for the heads up. I did guess close to $300, but obviously I was way low.

I paid ~$24 for a piece of 1/8" steel plate (25"x75") for my workbench. I oil it regularly with 3-in-1 oil to keep it from rusting.
