Standard 240v 30amp Receptacle

240V receptacles won't physically fit in a 1 gang box. They're too wide. You need to use 2 gang boxes.

An L14/30R fits in a single gang box just fine. I've installed about 20 of them.

I should've said SOME receptacles can't fit in single gang boxes. I found out the hard way when I swapped my 10-30R for my dryer for a 14-30R. The 10-30R was in a single gang box, and the 14-30R wouldn't fit, so I had to replace it with a 2-gang box.
