standardization,what standardization?

why no standardization ? Everyones off doing their own thing.
I recently bought a DeWalt oscillating multitool to compliment my corded Dremel one.The new tool came with a cutter blade(doesnt say anything about what it can cut) and an adapter.
So I pulled out the Dremel to see what attachments would interchange.
I have a couple adapters for the Dremel that allow every thing Ive found so far to fit attachment wise. So I try them on the DeWalt.... no go,only 1 blade fits.
The adapter supplied with the DeWalt doesnt fit any that Ive found either.
So I call DeWalt,get put on ignore(hold) and a few minutes later it gives me the choice of a call back. I still have heard from them from days ago.
There are thousands of different brands of hacksaws but one common thing is the blades interchange. Why change that idea?
I think its all about having a proprietary tool and attachments to keep you coming back for more consumables.
I remember the Phillips RedHead anchor system(I believe it was a first) with the anchor that was also the bit. We was given the drill because we bought X amount of anchors. Same with a Hilti tool,buy 1000 shots and pins and get a free gun.Its all about the consumables.

Looks like the DeWalt has the same attachment system as my el cheapo ($30) Ryobi corded multi-tool that I bought 8 years ago. Maybe check ebay to see if there's a converter.

DeWalt wants you to buy their consumables, and once you have their consumables if something happens to the tool then you will also buy a DeWalt tool since you have consumables for it. lol.

I bought some el cheapo sanding and cutting attachments off ebay. They ****. Anyone know of a nice assortment pack that won't break the bank?

I just used my Ryobi multi-tool yesterday to sand a door that was sticking.

I just finished using my Fein as a scraper. You don't want to buy genuine Fein blades if you can avoid it, just too expensive, , so I bought cheap universal ones from Princess Auto, Genius brand I think. It fit fine. The package had a long list of brands it fit. I think your Dremel is an odd ball.

I have Horrible Fright,astro,universal and DeWalt, that all fit my Dremel,and of course the Dremel.
only the universal and DeWalt fits my DeWalt.The adapter that came with the DeWalt fits nothing.

Fein and Bosch came together to make their current standard, every universal blade I have seen recently will fit either of those and plenty of others. Oscillating multi tools are still new enough that the eventual winner of a blade fitment hasn't been decided yet, but I wouldn't bet against Fein / Bosch.

Thats a DeWalt problem, not an industry problem. I believe Milwaukee, Ryobi, Hitachi, Makita etc.. adopted the Fein/Bosch Starlock pattern.

You can buy a replacement lock flange and convert the DeWalts though.

If DeWalt makes it,should be included instead of some cheezy adapter.

So far I haven't found any that don't fit my Milwaukee. I think it is just a Dewalt problem.

I've got the same DeWalt and mine seems to take whatever blades I put in it. Maybe you got a dud?

well that would make sense if they were "universal".
what about all the other brands that dont have universal blades?
