Standing Seam Steel Ridge Vent?

There appear to be foam pieces coming out of the ridge vent on our roof (picture below). I'm not sure how the ridge vents on steel are configured. Is the purpose of these foam pieces to keep creatures out of the vent? Or is there generally some wire mesh behind them? Also, if I shove them back in should there be some kind of adhesive to attach them?

I hate roof work and am trying to avoid multiple trips up there.

No vent. The closure is there to keep rain, snow, birds etc out. Some closure has sticky on one side but that info doesn't really help. If the ridge was screwed down then the screws should have gone through the closure to hold it in place. Some more screws through the ridge into the closure will hold it in place.

Those are not a vent just foam blocking. They originally install with adhesive or butyl tape. You can get plastic ones that have vents for ridge vent but not cheap. Right fix is to take off ridge and use new or reseal with those. Keeps bugs and birds out. You can get by just shoving them back in a few inches
