Hi all.

Has anyone had the Stanfield heavy weight long johns and the woolpower long johns 400 wt?

Wondering how they compare against each other.

Thank you.

I don't have an answer on those brands, and you probably know, but just in case, 400 wt is REALLY thick; standard baselayers are ~200 wt. Otherwise, merino wool is softer and isn't "itchy" like typical wool.

If you plan on being wet, like participating in an old school log drive haha, get the 400.
If you plan on being dry but very very stationary, like ice fishing, 400 is ok too.
Other than that, you’ll be simmering in your own juice. yuuuch.

WOW! I can't believe the price of these. But then it's only been 40 years since I last bought a pair. I think they were $30 then and I thought they were expensive then. I first started buying then around 1969 for $6 - $8. Stanfields had white wool available too which was really thick. We'd soak them in linseed oil and they became waterproof but your skin could still breath. (worn as an outer garment, standard logger ware of the day).

White would be neat.

I’m born and raised in Prince George BC btw

PG huh, I worked up there from 75 to 88. Lots of memories of PG for me.

The white stanies were actually sort of yellow as that was more the colour of the wool but they were the cadillac of their undies. They had the tops, bottoms and the full body suits with the big button down flap at the hind end. Those scared me and I'm not sure I ever bought any but I liked the white tops.

Small world. All the best.

Pity they do not offer the yellow or white option.
