I recently bought this scraper, I think I paid $12. Overall in very good condition. Little rust, much of the japanning is still present, all parts are there except the ferrule. Got a couple of questions.
First is the age. The trademark on the blade is Stanley Rule & Level Co which according to one source is 1874 - 1884. Any reason to think otherwise?
I think I can salvage the wood handle without much trouble. There was a pin holding the handle to the shank, pretty sure that’s not original. But, interestingly, the pin is in a through hole in the shank, and it stops exactly flush on the far side.
Looks like I can drive out a pin that holds the chip breaker in place, but the pivots for the head appear to be molded into the head. So I'm thinking the sides of the yoke need to be carefully spread apart.
