Guys, I got this Stanley Bailey No. 5 plane as part of a bulk buy. I’d like to flip it to defray some of my initial cost. Can any of you give me an idea of age and realistic value? It’s in nice shape. Thank you for any help.

Paid $12 bucks for mine in an antique store about 5 years ago. It was rustier than yours. Spent half day of polish, flattering, and fine tuning. So not sure what you should ask for it really. You would need to have in fine condition for high sale price I think. With power planners kind of obsolete. But also not if you know how useful they are.

That is a fairly recent one, with the yellow badge, thinking late 50s. Number 5 planes are fairly common, but I think $15-20 is about it around here for that one. I wouldn’t put a whole lotta work in to cleaning it up, knock off the dirt and dust with a dust brush, wipe it off with a rag, and say done. Maybe sharpening it up will add $5.
