That's cool. I like Stanley, all my tapes are Stanley, so I'll say with out bias that I'm sure they'll get some sort of a tax break for their efforts!

Good to hear that they're helping out. Again with a bit of bias this probably wont cost them anymore than another TV add or too but will probably work far better for them. Win-win

Stanley is awesome. Current leadership is great, the only thing I don't like is the high debt, but they are the best possible steward of Craftsman.

I have had good luck with most of my Stanley tools; pliers, cutters, hammers, punches.

Not so sure about B&D, but good to hear that they support communities.

Nice effort, and I'm sure a lot of other big companies will help out too. Lots of thoughts and prayers going out to those folks in Texas.

The only bad part of this, IMO, is that so many companies and wealthy individuals get suckered into making their donations to the Red Cross when there are hundreds of organizations across the country who go about doing relief efforts with maximum efficiency while the Red Cross is a massive bureaucracy that's more concerned about its image than about actually delivering aid to people in need.

Interesting article....... https://www.propublica.org/article/the-red-cross-secret-disaster

Oh I'll still bash them. Considering this is a pitiful marketing stunt more than anything. It's nice that they donated some money, but come on, just $125,000? That's 6 minutes worth of income, or a little over an hour's net-profit for SB&D.

I would have been impressed if they donated something actually substantial - like a couple million. The 2:1 donation matching is a joke too, for a company making as much money as SB&D I would have expected more like 10:1.

I think it's great that Stanley is helping with the recovery/rebuilding effort that will be needed in Texas. For some people the helping hand that Stanley and others will provide is never enough but Stanley's and others generosity should be championed not criticized.

How much have you donated?

Its a publicity stun as mentioned.... but win-win like that other guy says... some $$ is better than no $$$ (Steve Harvey: FunderDome) even if it paid for toilet tissues for about 1 million people.
and I don't see any of the billionaire real estate mogul donating anything other than trying to make back hand deals to solidify his family business. So Kudos to Stanley Black and Decker.

Nice ad hominem attack. What I have, or have not done is irrelevant. This is about SB&D, not me.

Yes they donated money, but they don't actually care at all. They did this purely for marketing reasons. As soon as they made the donation, they pushed a press-release to PRNewsWire, allowing other news outlets to pick it up and spread it. That $125,000 donation represents 0.0011% of their revenue. That's the equivalent "financial strain" of me donating 60 cents - that's how little SB&D is actually doing.

Then that news blurb gets posted on sites like this, where half the people start praising SB&D for being "awesome". When in reality, SB&D is exploiting a disaster that destroyed the lives of thousands of people for their own corporate gain. It's disgusting.

By donating $5, I will put in literally 8x the effort SB&D did. You don't see me boasting about the $5 I donated, do you? It's great they donated some money, but the motives behind the donation are anything but great.

Absolutely agree. If you as a company were genuinely concerned, you'd be a long time supporter of agencies that are actually on the ground helping these people. To me.... it's the individuals who contribute to these causes and people in need, without the recognition, or tax write offs or a brand to push. These are the heros.

Thank you! It just doesn't sit well with me when a company makes such a (relatively) small donation, and immediately follows it up with a press report. Just feels scummy.

Every donation has an impact on the crisis in Tx. Not the best time to critique voluntary donations and discourage other small or large companies from stepping in and offering assistance.

Just another note...StanleyBlackandDecker sells their excess inventory 3 or 4 times a year by conducting tool sales at their plant and warehouse in New Britain. 100%...that's 100%...of money raised (which happens to be thousands and thousands of dollars) is donated to national charities. Mainly, Habitat for Humanity and Easter Seals. They do no advertising, press releases or chest pumping to exploit their "scummy" donations. They don't look for "attaboys" or pats on the back...
They have a great corporate philosophy for giving back to the community. I have to shake my head at some of the negative comments posted. SWK could obviously get by without doing or donating a thing. BTW...I don't work there, however, have friends that do. I simply have an appreciation the efforts of a large corporation who could pocket the money and simply sit on the sidelines, however chooses to be of help to those who need it. It certainly would be nice to see a little more of that attitude in this country. I wonder how much Harbor Freight or Chinese Milwaukee has offered to contribute...???

The press report is GOOD. It helps shed light on the desperate situation the people in Texas are in, and it might mean other co's follow suit and donate $$$ too.

You seem to be a negative person. Besides this hurricane, they also have donated millions in tools to local Habitat for Humanities and to other programs like the ToolBanks referenced in the OP's post. Those tools help local people do good in their communities like helping the poor and elderly fix up their homes so they don't have to move out.

This is just one of the ToolBanks. Lots of Stanley products on those shelves.

Everything helps. We have had the Cajun Navy come over from Louisiana with their boats rescuing people trapped in flooded homes.
Lots of boat owners showing up launching boats getting folks out of harms way.
All help is needed and appreciated.
I live here so seeing it on TV is a bit different than first hand.

I think it's great that Stanley is helping. I imagine Stanley will do more as time goes on. I am not familiar with the tool banks. What are they, how do they work and who runs them?

On their website, it says their mission is to loan out tools to volunteers. For local projects like to help seniors stay in their homes (some groups will come in and fix up the homes for them), the arts (to build theater sets, stages), disaster relief (repair to houses after disasters), cleaning up polluted areas and helping plant gardens and build parks.

Looks like a cool concept. A lot of good can be done with tools and knowledge.

Mission Statement: ToolBank USA establishes ToolBanks and provides support to these affiliates who improve their communities by equipping volunteers with tools.

Vision Statement: "The end of tool scarcity for America's volunteers."

Fwiw, there are a lot of companies donating over $1m. Home Depot, Whole Foods, Apple, JPMorgan/Chase, Citibank, Wells Fargo, even Amazon and Walmart.

Uh, PRNewsWire is an organization dedicated to marketing company PR blurbs. That's who SB&D sent the press report too. It doesn't shed light on anything.

I have no problem with SB&D's donation. I have a problem with them boasting about their small (relative to their size) donation all across the web. It just screams "cheap marketing!" more than "We care about people!" to me. I've been there and done that when it comes to this kind of corporate marketing ****. It comes off as really ingenuine and rubs me the wrong way. I don't like it.

Good for them! 650 employees across Texas, they have a larger US employee footprint than I thought.

Was Harbour Freight or China sending any money?

Let's not forget all the individual people who have donated as well, especially considering that they get no recognition whatsoever. To ALL, whom have donated to the cause, these people I'm sure thank you!

All of your comments are subjective, speculative and highly opinionated. The question is "will the funds help out people in need" and the answer is most certainly "yes".

Who gives a rats a$$ if SBD gets some recognition?

Some people find the bad in anything..................
