I was trying to remember the earliest pieces of furniture i built, because I want to give my grandkids something to do when they visit. I built shelves and a bench, using a brace and bit, and plane.
I can remember that the brace was Stanley. It was chrome and was close to a foot long. The chuck would ratchet. I don't remember the model details.
I was wondering if anyone here can recommend a model number?

Thanks in advance,
alton1911

Edit: title should read brace and bit.

Re: Stanley Brace and not ?

Look up Stanley/North Brothers 2100 and 2101 "Yankee" braces. Many think they are the best braces ever made. I have a bunch of the 2100/2101's, as well as numerous other quality vintage braces, many of which I'd be happy to trade or sell. If you are interested, send me a PM for more info.

I'll fix the title when I get home on the PC, my phone won't let me double tap. If I forgot, shoot me a PM. It's not a problem to do.

EDIT:

I fixed the title.

I picked up a brace at an auction about 2 years ago, I'll have to take a look at it and see what brand it is. We had ones like you mention in high school industrial arts class.

I use an Atlas hecho en Mexico with a chuck adaptor made from the chuck of a dead cordless drill.

Its a bit of a cobbled mess but never fails me ever.

Not a canidate for the best model ever made but despite various poor repairs keeps on the job.

Thank you for fixing that.

I love my grandkids enough to share the joy of woodworking with them, but alas my daughters and my homeowners insurance company probably would rather they learn the way I did... Without power tools.

They are fascinated with making holes in stuff... So far I have lost some great Marantz speakers, a few windows etc.
But I know it's part of the job.

Thanks again
