I just found a Stanley 1207, I’ve wanted one of these for a while. This one is in pretty good condition but I am considering a repaint. The lead screw is held in place with a spring steel plate. Is anyone familiar with these vises and how, if it’s even possible to disassemble them.
I gently pried on the plate but I don’t want to destroy anything. Any advice is appreciated.

I belive you need to remove the upper of the two rods that make up the slide. Then the spring will be able to move down the top of the slot in it is larger than the bottom or middle and the threaded screw will pass through the larger opening.

I belive the rods are pressed in and will take some grunting to remove and pretty good amount of pressure put back.

I'm sure it can me done I have never tried myself. Good luck if you try it I would like to hear how it goes.

Thanks for the response, I was thinking that would be the process as I see no other possible way to remove the spring. I'm thinking this one is staying in one piece as it doesn't appear as though that guide has any interest in coming out.

I took a closer look at mine you would need to remove both rods on mine anyway.

I was primarily interested in getting the lead screw out for possible sand blasting and paint. I think this one is going to have to live with just a vinegar resto, lol
