this impact by stanley awefully close resembles the ingersoll rand type but the difference i have not figured out yet is that it weighs nearly 8 ounces more then the mac tools gun of the same characteristics.

can anyone fill me in on this one? did i get a good buy on this at $35 for a brand new one? i can get a few more at $25 each out of packaging.

what do you think?

Looks like can be too deceptive, open it up or just give it a real test.

could the 8oz difference be because of the mold insert that make the name on the side.
the raised area around the letters will add some weight

yeah it is an irc231 no doubt. stanley just put their name on it. at123 bluepoint looks the same
the irc231c looks a little different now, but all the same gun.
Id rather use a cordless impact than this thing. too heavy and low power, but good for tires in a tire shop...

No they dont sell that gun that you have marked Stanley on it.

You will also not find any Stanley branded tools on a Mac Truck unless its Tape Measures.

I saw a guy from IR mention that the patents for the 231 ran out not too long ago and now there are tons of clones out there. The various Harbor Freight twin hammer impacts are of the same ilk.

I'm guessing the Stanley would be comparable to this one. For $25-$35, it's probably worth having but I wouldn't spend much more than that. Once you get past $50, it's time to start thinking about a NitroCat or a real 231.

As others have mentioned, the IR 231 is kind of heavy. The extra half-pound isn't going to be your friend during a long day of wrenching but for just pulling lug nuts, it shouldn't make a difference.

So, was this a deal others could get in on and can you share the details? I have some friends in need of an inexpensive impact wrench.

My Mac tools distributor carries all stanley made tools including Proto, Blackhawk, and Stanley tools along with the Mac tools and when I say Stanley it's not just a tape measure.

It is not a 231C and is not made by Ingersoll Rand.

Wal Mart sold those a year or so ago. I remember seeing them on the shelf along side an air ratchet, die grinder, and air hammer. I want to say the impact went for $79.99 before they clearanced them out. I think they disappeared at $40 from Walley world. As for the weight difference, it could be from using lesser quality steel than in a real 231. If you're buying to use in a nonprofessional setting, it's probably a great deal. If you're thinking of buying to flip them for a profit, I don't think there's a high demand for Stanley Air Tools.

I tried out a used one at a pawn shop and it didn't work as good as my IR 231. Its possible it was worn out.
