Stanley or Teng Tools? None? Other?

So, i am now looking into a better quality tools after the failure "Dexter" toolbox.

Of cour,se i would like to buy Facom or Beta tools but the price is too high. With that in mind i have reduced my choice to Stanley or Teng Tools.

Which brand is better? Who will last longer? What tools do you find more attractive, etc, etc, etc.

Or do you have another option?

Stanley are very 'generic imported', nothing special! Teng are Taiwanese, same applies! Both are overpriced in my opinion!

Don't know where you are, but in the U.K. you can pick up Beta for no more money than Teng, and that's what I'd do!

Look out for the Beta 'Action' promotions, there are always small sets of tools at really good prices!

Find out who the Beta importer is in your country and ask for a copy, and also who their dealers are!!

Forgot that. I do live in Europe, more specifically, in Portugal.

Beta would be really nice, and i could order from abroad (UK or Germany) but most stores don't ship to Portugal (including sellers in Ebay and Amazon).

A lot of Stanley stuff is decent. It's not professional quality but it works fine.

Teng stuff is garbage.

When i started working i bought a load of teng stuff because i didn't have a lot of cash. All of it broke or just wasn't up the job, like the teng breaker bar it broke before cracking free wheel nuts.

The only thing i have left is the impact driver. The bits for it are soft though and i replace them a lot. I hardly use it though so its not worth me getting a snap on model etc.

The best i could recommend is Sealey tools.

They do import a lot of stuff but it tends to be the better quality items. They back it all up with a solid warranty.

I have a good amount of sealey kit because snap on dont make certain things, i've never had any issues with it.

I have a teng roll cab that has been in light daily use for the past 8 years,I think it matches the quality of my snap on kra series toolbox that is also in daily use.Paid no where near retail price for it though.

Not in Portugal, but in Spain. There's a store called Herrapro. The owner(?) is a member here--Bhae.

ratchets are the worst tools i have ever used. They break so easly its sick, same with breakerbars! I dont use teng so often(in my work) but has even than broke atleast 4 ratchets, and 2 breakerbars! And the funny thing is that its are under correct use, no cheaterpipe or hammering with them! My friend has the biggest tengtools box I think, guess how many ratchets he has trash and get on the warranty ....15 pc haha!

I believe about 5 or so year's ago teng was taken over. When I started buying tools around 20 years ago they were complete rubbish, however my tool shop guy tells me they are much improved. In fact I am pretty sure he said a lot of the teng tools now have a lifetime warranty.

Yes they have very good warranty, but they break down anyway!

The Dexter Phillips screwdriver last 4 screws, so i am guessing everything is better than that.

Seems i have to go for another brand. Starting to look at other top brands. NWS, Wera, Hazet, etc. But the problem will always be, most stores don't send stuff to Portugal and most brands aren't even sold here. I actually think if those brands tried to enter this market they could be successful in a "big" way.

So Facom or Beta are the next in line.

If you want something in the price range between Teng and Facom, go for Kraftwerk. Made in Taiwan, lifetime warranty, very nice quality. Price is just under Beta. Here in Holland it's being used in many professional garages.

Thank you! But those are the prices without taxes. You need to add 23,25% to each item plus shipping (yes, our vat is at 23.25%).

Some of the stores you referred are closed or just work with companies, by that i mean, they are not open to the general public. Unfortunately i can't just walk in to a store and grab one of those screwdrivers from Wera, StahlWille, etc, and see how it feels in my hand (this sounds so wrong lol).

ok, it's, IIRC, made in Poland and not Germany but it's way better than whatever Stanley or Teng or Dexter offers in quality and durability. and the colour is great too!

buy once or buy cheap but often...

for the record i do have two toolboxes and one toolchest from Stahlwille and there's not much bad to say about it except that they're not easy to find cheap out of Germany or the Netherlands.
